Flaxseed info needed plz x

Hiya all

Can anyone tell me if ’ flaxseed oil’ messes with any other medication plz?

As in, does it intereact badly with other medication and cause dangerous problems etc?

Also, does anyone know why when taking flaxseed oil capsules, does my blood sugars raise quite rapidly n highly?

Felt much better when i was taking it previously but stopped as problematic with blood sugars n just got out of habit of taking it. so would like to be able to start again asap.

Thank u in advance for any advice given,

love

Hi Anna,

I buy cracked golden flaxseeds (linseeds) and either make them into a flour with the blender and make a fabulous foccacia type bread with them (the recipe’s about about.com low carbohydrate diet pages) or I scatter them on yoghourt.

Or - I mix them with greek yoghourt - quite a lot of flaxseeds - 2 dessertspoons and leave for 30 minutes and then mix with a chopped apple - or half a chopped apple.

I prefer this method as you get plenty of roughage, so no constipation and plenty of natural omega 3.

I too have problems with blood sugars, so have to limit my fruit intake (I love fruit) and eat a very low carb gluten-free diet. The low carb is on doctors’ orders and the gluten-free is because it reduced my nervepain - it doesn’t work for everyone, like all things to do with MS.

best wishes,

K

I take 2 flaxseed oil capsules each day on the recommendation of my neurologist (I can’t take fish oil as allergic to fish and the flaxseed oil capsules are said to have a higher level of omega 3,6&9 than you get in the fish oil). I take the flaxseed oil capsules after an hour or taking prescribed medication as the capsules can interrupt with the digestion of other medication if its in capsule form - this is the same for any capsule medication as its to do with the capsule structure itself as opposed to whats in the capsule. Flaxseed oil capsules if they are pure flaxseed oil shouldn’t raise your blood sugar levels noticeably. Where do you buy the capsules from?

l buy the golden flaxseeds/linseeds and l toast them in a dry pan - makes them taste so nutty - then l grind them in a coffee grinder- this cracks the seeds and makes them digestible. l too, like them on top of greek yoghurt especially with a banana. But l also add them to salads - crumbles and have made a sort of flapjack - lots of seeds/nuts/dried fruit.

l shall certainly try the gluten-free foccacia recipe.
