Financial Help- various

First time on the forum so please bear with me a I find my way around.

I am not working and my fatigue and legs are not great.

  • How do I go about getting some financial support. I am not working, but did so for 30 years.
  • Do I have to go to a job centre? MY area is high for the CVirus?
  • Is there online support?

This is all rather a shock and very new.

I will also look up the employment sites I’ve been given, but just so tried not sure how much I can do as yet.

  • Also are there any groups or support, idea areas, regarding setting up a business, or people that would be interested in doing so?

Your replies would be very welcome.

Stay safe,

Thank you

Hi Maz

Find out where your local CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) is. Also Welfare Rights.

consider joining Benefits and Work - for a fee of £20 (ish) you get help applying for benefits.

Your local library is a good starting point if you have an idea for starting a business.

sorry that my writing is muddled it’s because I’m tired.

Good luck

If you are of working age then initially I would seek a sick note from your GP then apply for Employment Support Allowance (ESA). You can apply for Personal independence payment (PIP) but this is a difficult benefit to get so i agree with Carole get help from Citizens advice (CAB).

I think because of Covid you have to apply online for ESA. Not sure about PIP but a phone call to Department of work and pensions (DWP) is a must as they send you the PIP forms, once you have asked for the forms there is a time limit for filling them in so take a look at Benefits and Work first to get an idea of how to fill the forms in.

Hope that makes sense, I’ve got my grandchildren so my heads battered

Best wishes

I think DWP sites are quite informative about what benefits can be appied for online and CAB site also good for advice

If applying online I think they may follow up by phone but it’s a good starter for ten

Re starting businesses, am sure there are start up grants and courses - maybe a generic web search could help?

IF you are over 65 you should apply for Attendance Allowance.

It is not means tested and is tax free about £380 per month

You can get the form on line but it is large 72 pages.

You need a printer.

You must describe all your problems and all the support you need , I needed a chair lift, help putting on my socks and trousers, washing , help with cooking and home deliveries for shopping. I pay for physio twice a week , gardening and washing and ironing

I use a rollator in the house and a scooter outside

There is lots of advise to help you fill out the form from age uk

It will take you a day to complete the form get some help to type it

It is well worth it , I do not worry now about the cost of help

If you need further advice send me a private message

Hi Bertie,

Im 57, and my symptoms are not as bad as you. fatigue and walking the worst.

I want to see if I can get some benefits and then see about a grant for a small business.

I used to travel and working abroad, thats now out. Cant afford to just retire.
