Morning all!
Bit of a random post but does anyone else have issues with ‘funny turns’ when in the shower? It doesn’t happen v often, but when it does it feels v weird…like the same story playing out in my head and then i feel sick and v close to fainting…
Happened this morning, I worry if something happens as often home alone with my toddler!!

Hiya
Yes. I used to get this quite often. My doc put it down to the heat in the shower making my balance worse and causing me to topple over. Hat really exacerbates my symptoms. I really hurt my side when I last fell but we have a wet room now so that’s much easier because I have a seat there. Hope you get to the bottom of what is causing yours.

hi emma
get a seat for your shower.
i have one that is a board that fits on the bath.
i don’t use it much these days except for having my shower gel and shampoo to hand.

Probably the heat yes. Maybe save the shower for when you’re not alone with just toddler?

[/quote] I agree with Poppy. I have had “funny turns” in the shower in the past and, although I haven’t fallen, they did scare me so I will tend to have a shower when there is someone else in the house just in case.
Hi, same as everyone else has said…make sure the water is cooler before you get in and use a shower chair…a proper shower chair, as those wall fixed ones can be slippery and cause falls. I know cos it happened to me. Ask an OT for an assessment and you should get a shower chair for nowt!
Take care, yeh?

Think this as said is purely down to heat, and condensation. This is similar to hot humid days. Makes sense to be stable with the chair etc, as having to close your eyes and balance is too risky for most with m.s.
the O T had grab rails put up for me and gave me that shower “bench”
brilliant!

The heat is the obvious culprit, Emma, but do you use a shower stool or seat.
If you felt a touch dizzy when you stood up, this could be “Postural Hypotension” (your blood pressure drops just as you stand up).
If this sound possible, your GP can test it properly.

It takes me about 30 minutes to recover from a bath but I don’t have a problem with a shower. It’s the heat most definitely.
I use a bath seat and fully recommend one. Sitting down in the shower is fine and it might sound daft but it is absolutely true…the few inches longer the water travels cools it considerably and it makes a huge difference.
