facial pain

Hi everyone, I’m suffering from pain in my face at the moment. At first I thought it was toothache but it kept moving from my front tooth to my nose to my back teeth and to my ear and then the other side of my face so I looked up ms related and found trigeminal neuralgia which fits the symtom, so I guess it’s that. According to the source that I googled, only 4% of people with ms get it but I’m kind of hoping that I’m just getting a taste and then it will go away as I seem to have gotten every symptom moderately except the paralysis. The pain lasts seconds and then stops and then starts again like a darting pain and makes eating anything that is not soft a problem. I’ve never seen anyone post anything about it so I’m wondering if anyone else out there is suffering from this particular symptom and if so are you taking pain relief for it. By the way where is everyone gone? Nobody seems to be online anymore. Ciao

If it is trigeminal neuralgia there is treatment for it - usually cabamazepine is very effective. It would be worth seeing your dentist first in case it is an abcess. When I had TN it was constant and one sided. Liz

Hi Yes it sounds like neuralgia, I got it up the front of my face usually starting in my front teeth. My Gabapentin was increased and it went. I was very glad about that cos it is very painful as you know. take Care. Lynne xx

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. I’m so glad to hear that there are others with it and that there are meds that help. It is a bit scary because even though it comes in spurts, it’s very painful and I am terrified it will get worse. I’m due to see the neurologist soon so I’m going to ask about getting meds for this one. I put up with a lot of symptoms but this one is the worse. I don’t know what I’d do without you all. Ciao Lucy

Don’t just put up with things - there are a lot of treatments for symptom relief…from pain to peeing… liz

Hi Lucy I have been experiencing facial pain (TN) for the past 4 weeks. I am undiagnosed, but have a whole raft of symptoms, including optic neuritis and an abnormal MRI, but the neuro says I have to have another “relapse” before I can be tested further, as the distribution is not consistent with MS!! I have been informed that TN is a relapse and I am seeing the MS nurse tomorrow for the first time and will be asking her for something to ease the pain and finding out whether she agrees it is a relapse. I know how painful it is. Like you, it doesn’t happen all the time (about 3 or 4 times a day) and it hits in different places i.e. teeth, jaw, cheek, under and above the eye - but all on the left hand side of my face. Only occasionally do I get it on the right hand side of my face. All the best, and I hope you get some relief soon. Ness46

Yes, it is true, that is rare disease, and abcess would come to grow that cause much pain, Mostly that is beyong the teeth or jaws. Seek dentist for some proper medication.
