Eye problem but no vision change?

Hi everyone

Thanks for taking the time to read. I’ve been drawing on this site for info and guidance since I developed sensory and motor symptoms towards the end of 2020. It keeps me away from Google!

I’m waiting for an MRI of neck & spine. MS has been flagged as one of a few possible cause of my symptoms by the neurologist I saw. So far problems have been limited mainly to hands and below waist but over the last few days my eyes are really hurting. My vision is unchanged but there is a dull ache behind my eyeball, sometimes both eyeballs and they also feel itchy and stinging at times. It comes and goes. I have had the sensation of something being in my eye a few times but nothing visible in there. The worse eye is a little bloodshot but they look ok otherwise. I don’t want to book an emergency appointment at this point as it’s bearable pain, more nagging than anything, but optic neuritis crossed my mind.

Does anyone have experience of ON without vision loss - can it be this mild? Or am I overthinking…

PS it’s not lack of sleep - I’m sleeping 10 hours a day right now!

All the best and thanks in advance

Anne

I’m having literally a similar problem, taking my makeup off or any pressure on my eye is really painful. This morning my headache got worse just by me using a foundation brush. It often feels like I have constant pressure behind my eye.

Hi Aims. I checked in with my GP this morning and she’s referred me for an ophthalmology assessment. She mentioned the possibility of ON despite it being mild. It doesn’t always manifest as vision loss apparently. I did stress i had no vision loss as don’t want to waste an unnecessary appointment but she said it worth ruling out out. Perhaps worth asking for your GP’s opinion? I think you can also self refer.

Ah that’s interesting about the ON I thought it had to be accompanied by vision loss. I saw on my GP file that they sent a referral request in December, assuming that referral is working its way through the NHS at the moment.
