Hello everyone, I hope life is being kind to you today. Just out of interest what are the things that you can no longer do? There are everyday things I can no longer carry out: Hanging washing on the line, cleaning the bathroom, hoovering, cooking is becoming seriously difficult, can’t bend down to get things out of low cupboards as the legs just collapse and I end up in a heap on the floor and need assistance to get upright again, changing the bed (I never realised it could be so hard until I couldn’t do it) it now takes me half a day for just one bed! Even getting in and out of the shower I can no longer do unless my OH is in the house in case I get stuck and I have to have a bath board to sit down as I can no longer stand for any period of more that a few minutes. I find this whole thing of trying to keep a house running adequately is now getting slightly beyond me. What are the things around the house that you can no longer do that you used to take for granted and just get on with? Leaving the house is now a whole different scenario!! Linda x
hiya
theres loads i can no longer do but i dont think its good to focus on the past and concentrate on what u can longer do so…
i can still be mum! i can still communicate-ok its diff to how it used to be…
i can still think and express my opinion…
i can shower and dress-slowly and aften with assistance but still manage in a fashion…
i can still discuss homework with my kids…
i am writing a book! my scribe has just left.
i can go outside in my powerchair and enjoy all that bring (except when i couped out last week!)
i love my weekly catch up with my cleaner and hear whats going on in the outside world.
i love my phonecalls with my family-none are near me.
i love when my neighbours take me out for tea (its not easy but they wont hear of going without me)
everyday i am grateful for those that text me-its the easiest way for me to commmunicate.
and loads of other random things…
life is what u make it, not physically but mentally.

Hi Linda. There`s very little housework I can do, and when I try, I get into difficulties. My job is pulling the washing out of the washer, with my grabber and putting it on the airer…then transferring it to the rads the next day.
Trying to wash and dry up is a job I also try to do. But it is hard to get my wheelie near enough and at the right angle.
Guess I am a lady of leisure!
luv pollx
Everything unless im having a relapse and have no energy to do it and have to force myself
I can’t do all of those things you mention plus some you haven’t, I hate losing my independence but apparently I’m not bad enough to qualify for any help. I pay a lovely lady to clean once a week. She’s become a good friend, which is a bonus. The only thing I do now is the ironing, but my OH has to put the board up, get the iron, laundry and perching stool, then put everything away again. Everything else falls to my wonderful OH who has taken it on mostly with good humour and without complaint. Love and hugs and wishing you lots of luck. xx
Hi Linda have you seen an OT, to give you any equipment that may enable you to do some things… I was finding kitchen stuff increasingly difficult and my OT got me a Bambach saddle stool. It is on wheel so you have to be able to manage this but also depends on the flooring in your kitchen. For me, it has been life changing, I can sit with improved posture, less fatigue and get meals with my husband, also allows mw to get in cupboards as it goes up and down. They cost a few hundred to buy, but your OT might be able to see if suitable. It bits the tipping stool!
Best wishes to you.
Hi Linda - know how you feel about it becoming more and more difficult to run a home. GP told me recently that there was ‘no way’ I should be doing the hoovering - well I’d just been trying to carry on despite the fact that it was getting more and more difficult, 'cause I’ve always done it and it’s never been a problem before!!! Bit of a shock to be ‘told off’ by the GP, but now a sense of relief really and trying to concentrate on what I can still do. Good advice from Twinkle3 to see an OT - I’m sure there’s equipment that would be helpful to you. And have you applied for PIP, which could be used for the cost of having some help with the housework ?
Do take care of yourself … I try to enjoy the little things each day, 'cause non of us know what tomorrow will bring.
Hugs… Hazel x
