ESA how long does it last

Hi , i am after some advice to put my mind at rest, i was placed in the ‘support group’ for contribution-based ESA in Sept of last year, my question is is this indefinate or does it only last for a set period. Thanks in adavance for any replies …Colin

Hi Colin,

It can be indefinate but on the whole people are put in a group for a set period. Were you sent a letter notifying you, you had been placed in the support group and if so did it not have on there for how long???

Hi Char, yeas i recieved a letter saying that is was being placed in the Support group and as such did not have to take part in any work-related activity but it does not say for how long. fingers crossed they will now leave me alone …

Hi,

Yes you will be left alone. You may from time to time receive an appointment letter but as long as you are in the support group these appointments will not be mandatory and will not affect your benefit. If you want to know the length of time you’re in the support group call your local jobcente and they will tell you.

I think that no-one gets ESA indefinitely. You need to ask the benefit delivery office dealing with your claim to tell how long the award is for. When I was put in Support Group I asked for a copy of the Atos assessment and also how long the is the award. Mine is for two years after which I will be reassessed. I was incredulous. Although I was dx 25 years ago it appears that DWP are party to info not made available to anyone else and the cure is in the pipeline!

I jest of course.
