Hi Anon,
I know I’m a lady (not what my O/H calls me) but I do know that MS can affect men in that area, but please don’t be embaressed, it takes a strong person to ask and you obviously are. Speak to your doc’ and he will probably be able to help you.
Janet
I’m afraid both are well known problems of MS (and other neurological conditions), however they are also a well known side effect of most anti-depressants. The best way to get help is to brave the GP’s. They have heard it all before, so please don’t be shy and struggle on when there are things that can help (e.g. viagra on prescription) if you ask.

Ellos Anon
well yhis is my first post so I may as well jump in at the deep end…
While I have yet to get a diagnosis for a neurological disorder Im waiting on seeing a neuro in a few weeks… Ive always had issues with this partly due to anti depressants and partly to do with my illness.
just before Xmas last year I lost just about all functioning after a blinding white headache, when my ability to get an erection stopped all thoughts about sex stopped… it was quite a blow. so I know just how you feel.
At first I thought it was my meds so I went to see the doc, not a lot of use but i suspected I was suffering with ssri sexual disfunction, so meds were changed and i was sent to see a urologist… I had a PSA test(prostate hormone function) which was in the really healthy range. The urologist had done flow tests and could see that there was a problem with my urine flow stopping and starting and weak flow but finding nothing at all wrong with my prostate she put it down to advanced ageing of my prostate due to lifestyle and mental health, she prescribed flowmax for life. The flowmax does help a little with the bladder issues but nothing else.
Anyway after a lot of stressing and no sex (which brought on a bout of depression which lasted 9 months) I decided that the ejaculation thing isnt important anymore its the end to a good time, a loving time.
So had a chat with the doc about options… more meds…( no thanks i want to keep what function i have) I decided to try a vacuum pump which although a bit uncomfortable at first helped me to get an erection combined with a decent ring gave me back my sex life and more, I still cant ejaculate most of the time but it has given me a sex life again, It has changed the emphasis about sex and that the time together is really something more than just the gratification and more about fun , I guess i’m saying its how you approach the issue and that you shouldnt be governed by what people believe is societie’s given norm ‘that this is how it should be’ more that sex should be about what you and your partner are happy with… The hardest part is getting your partner to understand that there is little they can do about it and getting them to adjust to the ‘it doesn’t matter philosophy’ As they will be blaming themselves or that there is something they are not doing, or have lost the ablity to please you and the miriad of other emotional gremlins that go with this area. Took my wife (Handbag) a while to come to terms with it all, but we got there, and apart from the ejaculation our love life is back to ‘normal’ … well as normal as things ever get with the rest of MS symptoms…
Hi Anon,
Yes it is. I get it. You could try cinammon (1/2 tspn in hot water). It increases the blood flow. It does help and if that fails, you could try Viagra, as Karen suggested. I might give that a go at some point.
Good luck,
Adrian
My gp was very sympathetic and gave me some meds for it. I was a bit barrassed to broach the subject and it took a long time mention it, she was completly unphased by the mention of e.d. but its a common symptomand easily remedied. She prescribed some meds - problem solved. I dont know what took me so long, it must be a man thing. My advice is dont be embarassed as its usually something thats easy fixed.
Hi Anon,
That’s great news, really pleased you took the plunge and got a good result.

Never had such problems - but it does affect my overall libido I guess. Fatigue, dizziness - it has it impacts when it comes to mood
Hi Anon,
What were the meds?
Thanks,
Adrian
Hi Aidrian they are called Cialis, good luck !
Hi All and thanks for answering my original post, I did see my GP however he did say unless you fall into several criteria eg MS , Diabetes etc then you are unable to have anything on the NHS, However offered me a private prescription, went into the chemists and £57 for 6 tablets, I walked out in disgust
As you Guys can tell I am not dx yet, I am on AD,s however have been for years, thanks for sharing guys and Ladies thank you for taking thetime to answer as well
Hi Anon, I’m sorry the cost of them where prohibitive, they are available over the counter for much less than that without orescription but u will need to speak with the pharmacist. You may have to shop around to get the best deal though. Good luck mate.
Selected Boots will dispense Viagra, but you have to go through that £50+ initial health check and suitability test.
You get a few tablets to work out the best dosage.
The next sets are much cheaper…
Willingness, ability and ultimate satisfaction from my recent experience: -
Before MS: always up for it / always able / almost always a happy ending
Now: Often not bothered / only with the right mental and physical stimulus / numbness means a hit rate of about 50%
Apologies if this is TMI for some.
Not TMI skel just honest. You can get viagra and generic at realy good prices the NHS just chooses the most costly one. Be carefull though as you move down the ranges the drugs do get cheaper so do the fillers.
Anon you say you are on anti depressants, how long for ? these impact dramaticaly on immune and sexual systems as the core chemicals they control are also used by these systems. May be worth talking over SSRI sexual dysfunction with your doc. Difficult subject to apraoch and most docs wont wont to admit to it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-SSRI_sexual_dysfunction this can and does happen while your taking them you dont have to stop for this to happen.
I think it happens with pregablin too. Sound advise about ssri dysfinction herbmanbob.
No erection probs but lack of sensation as the head is often quite numb, good luck with it mate hope you find somthing that works for you
When I first read the start of this post I thought it was a subject everyone would avoid, I was obviously wrong, its getting interesting this post. I get both those problems ame and I’m also on meds for bloodpressure which doesnt help. Having a positive attitude is half the battle as the thought of failure makes it worse. I havent heard about the cinnamon remedy , does it really work welshboy and have you tried it ? Anonnynonny
hi there
i also suffer with these probs but i do have ms…have tried viagra and the others
but most of the time i feel as if my mood has a lot to do with it…whether the meds are doing that or not i don’t know
just glad i have an understanding wife
Yes the same here I am glad I started this thread and we even have ladies willing to have some input, I think it may be a problem with confidence , if you cant perform just once it really knocks the stuffing out of you, will it / wont it happen again
I do know some medication can cause these symptoms I may have to look at my patient leaflets
take care all
