Embrassing bowel tmi

TMI but desperately need advice for my adult son, he is currently on laxido. He was advised he can take 8 a day, it’s hit and miss with them.
Would people mind sharing what laxative’s if any they have been prescribed by doctor ? Does anyone use over the counter laxatives ? My son was told by specialist in gastroenterology clinic not to use Dulcolax too often though they seem to work. Is their anything which is effective, herbal maybe. He currently is ruled by his bowel and it’s horrible for him, when the urgency comes on. He carries spare clothes but it shouldn’t have to be like this. Thank you

Hi there,
My bowels are awful too. I take 3 paediatric movicol - I am adult but these suit me best. Also sodium docusate 200mg morning and night, prucalopride 2mg in the morning. Sometimes also magnesium as it’s side effect can be diarrhoea - so sometimes works for my chronic constipation.
I also am prescribed quofora min go - this is very undignified anal irrigation - I actually hate this so don’t use it. Although I know I should !!! Google it to see how it’s supposed to work.
It really is awful my sympathies to your son. Has he been referred to a continence nurse as could be very helpful???
