Laxatives

Hello everyone.

After years of struggling with regular toiletry, I’ve started to go large on my dosage and variety of laxatives. I can now say that Dulcolax is the most effective. It’s still not an easy passage but it’s a quicker one. I actually think I should stick to one a day. Senakot extra has been helpful but I’ve been prone to tummy ache. I also have a little shot of Lactulaose every other day.

Sorry to bring up such a graphic subject but we do tend to say it straight on here. It might be worth giving Dulcolax a try. It’s made the urgency a bit more crucial and I’m now going once every three or four days. I’m still looking for the perfect balance.

Best wishes, Steve.

Hi, nowt is taboo here!

Have you tried Movicol aka summat else, but can’t recall it now!

I can’t go without a sachet every day. But I also have bran for breakfast with prunes and hi fibre bread daily.

Movicol don’t cause me any griping pain at all. I do get quite windy though!

As Poll says. Nothing is taboo here. If we can’t talk honestly on here where can we? I have had constipation all my life. Long story which I won’t bore you with!! But i have tried most things. I have all Bran (the original) oats and linseed every day. That works brilliantly for me. I only use Movicol occasionally now. I can also recommend Magnesium tablets. Look into because there are two types and you need the one for constipation. Until you have a problem you don’t understand how ill constipation makes you feel. I have had many hospital stays over the years cos of constipation. I wish you well with it all. Anne x

GP gave me Senna, continence clinic gave me a ‘softener’ which although helps, does give me a little cramping in tummy.

Sometimes I sit there and think it must be easier to raise the titanic than me trying to go to the loo! Sorry TMI

Magnesium - along with vitd3 will help. Especially magnesium citrate - which is the one that works as a laxative like good old Epsom salts!. l dare not take it as l have the other problem - going too much. l go about 6 times a day. ln fact l have just done one of those ‘bowel screening tests’ and it needs 3 samples for the test - and l did it in 30 mins.

Fibre does not work for everyone. lt can swell up and set like concrete in the bowel. A pint of hot water with lemon in first thing in the morning usually works. As does a gluten free /low carb diet.

l take lots of magnesium glycinate and L-threonate with vitd plus other B vits as l am following the Coimbra Vitamin d protocol. This has made a big difference to the lrritable Bowel syndrome l had. As well as painful legs at night.

I use movicol to soften and cant go without using the qufora or a micro enema. After years of severe constipation I now go most days

I was prescribed Latulose which i hate it is so yucky i am meant to take iron tablets 3 times a day but often miss them because the side effect is constipation. Recently ive bought figs, i got them from Lidl they didn’t cost much and they work for me. Frazer is lucky he definitely doesn’t have constipation…its such fun trying to pick it up whilst trying not to fall out of my wheelchair!

I would suggest Movicol and constipation suppositories, once the Movicol starts really doing it’s thing the latter becomes unnecessary! Although your Lactulose is a good alternative if you can stomach the taste >.<

I’m still in the earlyish stages of MS (3 years since DX) but after an awful time where I didn’t go for 9 days and was given Picolax, I’m quite pooparanoid!

Gosh.

This tickled me, been there mate!

linseeds 3 parts to 2 parts cold water! It makes an easy swallow mix in ten mins or so! I take a teaspoon full with a grape or something tasty. It works so use it regularly. Other thought Allbran original, raisins and dark chocolate use as a healthy nibble, maybe with a glass of red wine. No need to be miserable M x
