electric shocks

Hi all not been on here in a while, been struggling the fatigue is getting worse and I am getting a pain all down the right hand side of my body it is like an electric shock that I can not take my finger away from the socket. Does anyone else get these pains? I am struggling at work and just dropped my hours to four days hoping to carry on as long as I can as I work for myself and if I do not work I do not get paid. My temper is not the best these days either so in short feeling sorry for myself.Hope the rest of you are feeling as well as can be expected.love Mark

Mark there are meds that can help nerve pain, which is what you’re describing. Please contact your Neuro, nurse or even Gp. I had terrible pain and it’s under control now. It really improves your quality of life.

They will make you drowsy initially and with every change in dose needed to find a regime that suits you, but you have to look at it long term, you won’t be able to carry on as you are for long, not only will your health suffer but you could lose your job, family, friends etc as it will affect your sleep, concentration and mood, your whole personality.

Don’t want to depress you but it often lasts a long time and can affect your entire body if left, I know that from experience. I’ll explain if you want.

Take care.

Hi Mark

Cath is right, have a word with the powers that be, do not suffer in silence, there are meds that help. Take Caths advice and build them up slowly till you find what suits you.

Hi Mark, I get twitching legs and feet - especially in the evenings! Each twitch is punctuated by a strong electric shock - luckily mine aren’t exactly painful, just uncomfortable! You really need to get a neuropathic painkiller from your doctor - it should make all the difference. Don’t suffer if you don’t have to! Teresa xx

what meds are you all taking I am on baclofen and pregabin 600mg a day but they do not seem to be touching me these days. I have an appointment with the neuro on 16th of this month so of course will be mentioning these problems again. thanks again for your advise always there when I need youlove mark x

Hya Mark, hope you get some relief from neuro on 16th. I find Amitriptyline very good. Apart from helping with all the strange nerve things that MS throws up, it is also an antidepressant. You might find it useful to help with short temper. Anyway discuss it with neuro and see what you think.

Nice to see you hon… it’s been a while. Glad you’ve dropped your hours. Hopefully it will help.

Take care and let us know what neuro says,

will do Pat fingers crossed they find me something to help with these pains, I think lack of sleep also does not help me either. Still should not complain really could be a lot worse. I have made myself a member of a local MS thearphy centre and am going for a physio assessment next tuesday so next week will be a busy week. The centre looks good they have plenty of treatments available so might take a look at some of them.Hope all ok with you love Mark xx

The physio might help too, but as Pat said, Amitriptyline helps a lot with pain, depression but also aids sleep which in itself will improve how you feel.

Take care

thanks ladies I will mention to the neuro next week love Mark x

Hi Mark; have similar sort of thing myself sometimes. I make sure that I have 3 10mg baclofen tabs half an hour before I go to bed every night as this really does help me sleep. As you intimate, things are much more bearable if you’ve had a decent nights sleep. Hops things get better for you.

thanks clucker pigeon I will mention to neuro and see if my baclofen can be upped, I only take 10mg twice a day at present

Hi Mike,

Hope the neuro sorts out your pain, I agree with the others amitriptyline does take the edge off for me, and makes it more tolerable.

well went physio at the MS Theaphy centre well worth the 24.00 try and go every week while I can afford it, went to see the neuro today and he has put me on Amitriptyline starting with 10mg and building up so hopefully this time next week I will be feeling the benefits of it and enjoying a restful sleep at night. I am falling asleep all the while it is driving me crazy. The neuro is leaving me on 600mg pregablin and 20mg baclofen with the addition of the Amitriptyline and I also use rigotine patches 5mg a day - not sure if anybody else has had experience of these? Well update over will let you know if any improvement.love Mark

Good luck with the Amitriptyline, I take 35 - 45 mg a night and dread to think what I’d be like without them. I tend to get a bit twitchy in the evening, so a nightmare when trying settle down but the amitrityline just makes everthing feel a bit more settled

Enjoy a lovely sleep!

Hi Mark, glad the Ami is helping you sleep… that in itself will help your mood.

I’m only on 10mg in morning and 25mg at night but it makes a big difference.

Glad the building work is done… that is so stressful.

Take care hon… love the idea of your grandson calling you grumpy boy!

Hi Mark. I’m so glad you’re getting some relief, and if you’re able to sleep while your house is upside down then things should definitely improve when you’re less stressed. Has the pain eased? If you still get the nerve pain they can help with a painkiller especially for nerve pain. I find its worse in my legs when they get cold, I feel like I’ve been scalded so see how you get on and don’t just leave it.

So pleased that you’ve started improving, just being able to sleep makes life so much more pleasant. Take care and please let us know how you get on. Cath xx
