Early MS symptoms

Hi,

I am looking for some advice. I am 46 years old and have had weakness, tingling and pain in my feet for almost 2 years.

I have had MRI scans on my back and brain as my doctor was almost certain that I had peripheral neuropathy.

After these scans and nerve conduction tests it was deemed that I didn’t.

I am wondering if I could possibly have ms.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Have you had your A1C and glucose levels tested? Could be diabetes.

The MRI would have had to have shown lesions for the radiologist to pick up on.
It’s worth asking the consultant/GP if there was mention of anything they seen and it’s maybe not been picked up on.

My MRI showed white matter that given my age could have been naturally occurring. It was after a lumbar puncture that showed banding in my CSF that the lesions were judged to be caused by demyelination/MS.

Do you have any other symptoms apart from the tingling and weak feet?

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

I have some numbness in my hands. Normally things like typing is so much harder these days. I also find myself getting more confused.

Hi Carol,

Yes they tested for diabetes

I can’t speak to the likelihood in your case, but i was given a diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy prior to a second MRI set, a year and change later, that confirmed the damage was getting worse in a way consistent with MS (and then followed a bunch of tests to eliminate everything else it could be) so it’s possible, but there are a lot of other things it could be they will want to eliminate before making the determination out of the blue.

If you want advice, it’s worth mentioning it to your doctor just so they can talk it through with you, They may well have some test result (like the nerve conduction study) that suggests it’s something else or eliminates MS in the running. They don’t talk through everything it isn’t after all or they would be there all day I suppose.

Thank you for your message.

How long ago since your diagnosis and how are you coping with every day life?

So the formal diagnosis was at the start of this year, my first MRI was a year before that, which was about two years before i started noticing symptoms. It’s a process for all that it’s as maddening as it is to feel like nothing is happening.
