E-reader update - not MS (Elmo)

Some of you may remember me posting on the old forum about my mum’s Sony e-reader which I was having problems with after changing laptops. I had spent a day on it myself looking through the internet and Sony’s website trying to problem solve it myself then I called Sony and spent well over an hour on the phone with them who still couldn’t solve it. They tried to tell me I wasn’t following their exact instructions and I did get a bit stroppy with them so they said they would phone back within a fortnight. That was over 3 weeks ago and, surprise surprise, they haven’t bothered!! Shan’t be recommending Sony ever again! Anyway, the following day, I thought I would give Waterstone’s technical support a try as I have always purchased Mum’s e-books through them. Totally different experience. I e-mailed them with details of the problem, the immediately e-mailed back asking for a few more details and the next day they phoned me and we tried a few things on the computer. They said it was nothing I had done and concluded that the adobe editions program was competing with the e-reader program for the downloads. They asked me to uninstall the adobe program and were quite surprised that I could do this without them talking me through it. They then said they would get back to the book providers and ask then to deregister the books so I could try downloading them again. They e-mailed me a few days later to say I should be okay to try again and this time it worked  . So despite Sony and all the book providers saying you must have adobe to read the books, the nice man at Waterstones says you don’t really need it as it does seem to cause conflict. I phoned him once more to thank him for his prompt help and tell him how much better Waterstones are than Sony  . The only thing is mum won’t be able to borrow from our library service as she would need adobe for that but she says the e-books are not expensive anyway and as long as the reader works now she is happy. However none of us would recommend Sony readers to anyone after this experience as Sony’s after sales service is non-existent  Tracey

Hi Verona Why is it these things never seem to come with instructions for the one thing that you cannot figure out? I wish they just had a ‘help’ button like most programs where you could find a FAQ section. Perhaps Amazon have something similar on their website? Hope you get it sorted soon and happy reading  Tracey x
