Dx after accident

Hello All, In Nov I had a car accident, sustaining a small head injury. As a precaution I had to have an MRI and see a neurologist as they thought I’d passed out at the wheel (still no idea what happened). So scan done and a few weeks later off to the neurologist… Well, after a long chat and lots if tests, he announces that he believes I have MS or Vasculitis or lupos… It suddenly made sense of a lot odd things that have happened on and off since my mid 20s and especially my poor health over the last 5 years. Loads of bloods taken to rule out things like B12, vasculitis, Lopus etc. All of which came back clear, done an EEG too and await that result and then back to neurologist, who my GP says will confirm his diagnosis, but she believes from his letter and notes, the scan and bloods that it’s a done deal. You can imagine it’s a bit of a shock out of the blue and compared to most of your experiences a very quick diagnosis! My only experience of MS is my friends mother, who spent the last 8 years in bed, catheterised, feeding tube and unable to communicate… It is a scary image to be left with, with this news… I have the option of a lumber puncture and wondered what your thoughts on the necesity/certainty of it? Whishing you all the best health possible.

hi cornwall

my aunt was diagnosed after a car accident too.

unfortunately she had a rapid decline because it was in the 1960’s and the DMDs weren’t available.

have the lumbar puncture because this will help your neuro to give a definite diagnosis.

once the diagnosis is made you should be offered one of the Disease Modifying Drugs.

i take 2 tablets a day (tecfidera) and feel blessed compared to my poor aunty muriel.

please calm yourself down because stressing will only make things worse.

try mindfulness meditation.

research what is available in your area.

if there is an ms therapy centre, go to it.

i go to one near manchester and have HBOT (Hyper Barric Oxygen Therapy).

once you have a treatment plan, you will feel more in control.

Hi Carole Think you are right about the lumber puncture, I’ve ignored the symptoms for so long, I was worried that I had parkinsons and was scared to get looked at, the accident a blessing in disguise. The LP will give me peace of mind that the diagnosis is correct and hopefully treatable in some way. Thank you for taking time out to help. Wishing you well Cornwall
