I was diagnosed only a week ago with RRMS and am struggling to come to terms with it.
My main worry at the moment is driving. Luckily from my week in hosptial i have fully recovered from my relapse and have started tysabri. I can fully drive as my symptoms have all gone but im worried that my insurance is going to be cancelled when i tell them. My insurance is already ridiculously high as ive only been driving for one year and i have money struggles as it is. Im currently filling in the form to the DVLA but it seems unfair as i have filly recovered from my relapse
I guess my question is did anyone notice a huge hike in insurance price? It seems really unfair that my MS is going to make living more expensive if this is the case. Im just getting more and more depressed since my diagnosis
Hi.
They can’t increase the price you’re currently paying but DVLA will put you on a 3 year renewable license which I’ve found to cost more. You do have to let your insurers know ASAP or your insurance won’t pay out. It does help if you have another driver with a full license on your policy. If you try to go on someone else’s policy though their costs go up a lot.
As min says, they can’t increase your insurance premium just because of your MS. Min seems to have bad experiences but I’ve been put on someone else’s insurance and there was no price hike. It’s worth talking to your insurance company and, if necessary, shopping around at renewal.
There are lots of things to be low in spirits about with an MS dx, but honestly, this is the least of your worries. In my experience, as long as the DVLA knows, and the insurance company knows that the DVLA knows and is happy, there’s no significant effect on premium.
