Drop Foot

Hi, I was just browsing online to find a brace for foot drop and discovered this little contraption XFT-2001 drop foot system and wondered wha people think about this? I have tried the FES wich worked well, but unfortuantely my PCT (or whoever they are nowadays) refused to fund it, so I’m left with having to self fund if I want to use it. Finding this XFT-2001 product looks very interesting, but wanted some thoughts about it or if someone already has it i’d love to hear

Cheers everyone x

Hi Til. sorry to hear you cant get funding for the FES…have you thought about asking the MSS if they can help? They do have grants to help folk with mobility problems.

I`ve just watched the video on the gadget you mention. It does look good. How much does it cost? It is just so wrong that different area gve the funding and others dont Why ist there uniformity o things so important to us?

I`ve been a full time wheeleie for over 10 years.I wish somene had given me something to keep me mobile.

Anyway, I hope you get on well with whatever you get hun.

A polite letter to your (MP) advising that you have been refused funding for (FES), asking for his/her help.

Remember you/we pay their salaries and over generous expenses, so you are entitled to expect them to work for it.

Take care.

Hi Tilly,

At a quick glance, the XFT-2001 looks just like some of the kit that Odstock produce to give a wireless FES. How to compare …

The XFT-2001 costs just under a grand, and you get a nice case for it with a bundle of electrodes. The differences start already: you buy the XFT-2001 and it is yours - the Odstock Pace is on loan. The big costs to you (and could be to me, for that matter) are batteries, and in your case, electrodes.

If you get a Pace under the NHS, it costs the PCT £1600 odd for the first year, which covers the test, initial setup, followups at 1,3,6,and 12 months. After that, my PCT or whatever get charged £300ish a year, for one followup per year. All electrodes are included, and spare cables if you have the basic version. If you need spare electrodes, you phone and they fall through the letterbox within a few days. If you have a problem, you phone. Simple.

To me, that is worth fighting your PCT for the funding, and trying the MS Soc as well, just like Poll suggested.
If you buy the XFT-2001, I do not know what the backup is like, how long the electrodes last, what they cost, etc. You would have to find that out for yourself. what I do know, is that I could not do without mine (even if it does add 15 minutes to getting dressed in the morning).
