DREAMS

Good day everyone, we all have dreams, some we forget, some we remember, some are so stupid, some are not, do they, in some way, tell the future ( I hope not, recently, I dreamt that Celtic got beat by rangers), over the years 3 dreams stick out, 1) one night someone was squeezing me to death and I was trying to fight it, I awoke to find my left hand pulling my right hand off my throat, 2) I was cycling down a hill past a derelict house (the house is real but not on a hill and the hill in question is miles away with fields either side), it was dark, I saw a hooded figure come out of the house, in the corner of my eye, I pedalled faster, the figure kept pace, floating along, again faster I pedalled, I looked to my left at the figure, the hooded figure looked at me, inside the hood was a scull, it smiled, it was then I woke up, 3) the wife had left me, I had been invited to a hogmany party, in walks the wife with her new boyfriend, I left as soon as possible and went home to a house I have never been in, (it was next door to a house I stayed in as a boy), the next day our son came to wish me a happy New year, and found me dead in the chair with my dog (we had a dog but it died years before) lying dead on my chest/stomach, Brian, Just for the record Ellen and I are still together

You have very active dreams. I’m worn out just reading them  I’ve looked in my crystal ball…you need to book an holiday B-)

oooo Bri, some scary stuff going on…ooooeeerrr

I must say I rarely remember dreams and I have never had a nightmare - ever.

I do remember in a dream I was climbing up a building that was on fire to exterminate a nest of vampires while complaining to my friend who I worked with about a work colleague

I had one where I was leading a group of people on a safe path through mini exploding nuclear devices.

And walking through the streets of Belfast on my way to a pub cause all my friends and family were there. I was to be executed the next day for something my brother did and I do remember being very pissed off at him for not admitting it.

Strange things dreams

hiya brian

i rarely recall dreams but one has stayed with me for several years now…

i dreamt i was an eagle soaring in the sky. i recall how it felt to have the air under my tum and thinking small quick flaps get me nowhere-big and slow is best…

crazy it sounds i know but i loved it… (the freedom feeling)

It irritates me when I’m having a really nice sexy dream. I’m just getting to the really crucial bit and I wake up dam it!!

It’s reassuring to know that someone else dreams like I do. I have been shot, stabbed, strangled, drowned, in car crashes, etc. that many times I’m surprised I have managed to stay alive. One dream that comes along quite often is one where I am in a building and a force of some kind seeps out from a wall behind me and is trying to kill me by dragging me away back into the wall with it and I am fighting for my life to pull away from it. So far I have managed to wake up before it wins the battle, maybe next time it will be curtains for me!!

I think maybe it’s our brains’ way of trying to make some sense of our day to day battle with what’s going on with our physical state.

P.S. Unlike blossom above, I never wake up till after the crucial bit, what’s the point of the dream otherwise? Anyway, I’ve also perfected the art of waking up and then returning to the same dream. Can anybody else manage that one?

I have vivid dreams too. Fighting against aliens from within a large building full of rescued civilians including my pregnant sister. The aliens were particularly after human babies so protecting my sister was paramount.

Being at mum’s house where my brother’s friend was very old and had snowy, white hair and a very long, white beard that thankfully covered the fact that he was a eunuch (although he showed us and then covered up the scar). That dream was a few months after she had died and when I tried to research the meaning I deduced that it meant I was ready to let go of her.

Saving children from a sinking ship, climbing up a high crane with one of them only to drop him to his death. Thankfully I woke before he hit the deck but that wasn’t very pleasant.

I once dreamt that I visited an elderly lady to sort out her finances and she was a strange one! She had a house full of flowers, there were all sorts of people arriving and it was a really mad dream. I remembered it quite vividly as it was so strange. I was a supervisor in a building society at the time and laughed it off as I didn’t do home visits. Fast forward six months and I was a branch manager in another town. I was asked to visit a lady with mental health issues who had got her finances in a muddle and … deja vu big time, right down to the delivery guys arriving every 5 minutes with more stuff she had ordered!! Wierd eh?

Hi again. I had an odd dream last night and Tracey, you just might be interested to hear about it.

Hubby and i had moved onto a new estate. Just after moving in, we had some free, unordered things delivered…everyone on the estate did too.

At first it was food stuffs. Biscuits, cakes, bread…all packed in blue and white boxes, with the name;

ELMO FOOD DISITRIBUTION COMPANY

written on the boxes. Then other types of stuff came…household cleaners, dusters etc.

Then the scene changed and we were in our new living room/diner. I said I dont like this open plan. I want to go back to the old house.

When we tried to move out, we couldnt. Elmo was trying to control our thoughts and all the other residents were under their spell. We weren`t.

The next scene was of all the residents playing games of tennis in the grounds. It started raining…

I woke up!

Funny, innit, especially after we have just opened up our hallway, created a dining area…

when i first went out with my husband, i dreamt that i was walking up a hill, it kept getting steeper and steeper with me clutchin grass to pull myself up. then after a while it got so steep that i fell off.

weird but when i told him the day after, he had the same dream!!!

Polly, that is freaky! As you know, I love to bake - biscuits, cake, bread etc. I love our open plan living area but my son hates it as he says there is nowhere quiet to sit. That doesn’t bother me as I grew up in a large family and can tune out anything …

Hmmm, mind control though. I like that idea. I’m not sure I’ll ever win my son over as he’s too strong willed but maybe on the rest of the world, imagine Vincent Price evil laugh at this point

its official, people on this forum are crazy - you’re all fruity as a nutcake - a sandwich short of a full deck!!!

JBK x

Not crazy as such - we just have very special brains

Hi all, I hope you don’t mind me jumping in on your conversation, just been cruising the board due to suspected ms. I was interested in this post, because it is part of what I talk about with people in y job, so I know a bit about it. I am a therapist who works with people with all sorts of issues. One of the things we always talk about is dreaming. Because it has a very important function in us (we believe). The purpose of dreaming is to get rid of emotions from the working memory. When we worry or ruminate about something during the day (no matter how fleeting), we create an emotion which isn’t resolved, which we can imagine “clogs up” the working memory. The same thing happens when we suppress emotions - so if we feel angry at our boss but cannot say so. If we feel angry at our partner and do resolve it that doesn’t need to be dreamed. So when we go to bed at night, we have a bucketful of emotions to resolve. Once we go into our dreaming part of sleep, that is when this happens. We tend to re-run the emotions. Occasionally using the real worry/event, but more often the mind will use metaphor. So if you feel betrayed by someone, you may dream about someone stabbing you in the back, or you may dream about someone else who betrayed you in the past. The emotion is generally exaggerated so that is why some dreams can be so WEIRD! Also if we have stuff that is much more emotionally intense than a small worrisome thought, or if we are repeatedly worrying or ruminating over something, then we can imagine that we may notice intense or repeated dreams. It’s really interesting stuff. If you want to know more, or even more generally for helping yourself to cope as well as possible with life with ms (or indeed just general life as a human) I would highly recommend this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Human-Givens-approach-emotional-thinking-ebook/dp/B00CLCZSHU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1390127284&sr=8-4&keywords=Griffin+tyrell Hope you find that interesting (I do!) and don’t mind me “hijacking” the thread? Leah

Hello Leah

It is interesting, the things we dream about.

My understanding is, that the brain is like a computer…only much more specialised, beyond anything man could invent.

Apparently, one of the reasons we need to sleep at night, is so our brains can reboot themselves…something like that anyway I just wish my brain would allow me to finish my dreams before waking

Hi Leah

I believe dreams have a purpose too. I bought an app for my phone and if I can remember a particularly vivid dream I look it up to try and work out what it is trying to tell me.
