Do you know your blood group?

Hi Everyone

Thought I would mention that I found out my blood group last year by becoming a blood donor. It turns out that alot of the foods I used to love where infact of no use to me by eating as they only store fat and reduce energy. I have found by eating a food plan that only consists of the right foods for me that I have much more energy and have lost quiet a lot of weight which has to be a good thing. PS I’m blood group A+ which means that I should only eat leafy greens, Fish, Fruit, nuts and seeds.

Interesting fact is that for every person you ask if they know there blood group 9 out of 10 won’t know unless you have been pergnant and can remember it!

Jimbo

Hi I know mine and that was also from being a blood donor, I am O- which I beleive is very common, but very handy as anyone can be given it.

I will look into what you said as I wish to lose weight and would like to have more energy.

Thanks

Jaycie

Hi Jaycie

Yes O negative is one of the orginal people on this planet, so you are very old indeed! Well your ansestores are anyway.

Yes good look with your search, you can find most out on the internet google, just put in blood group diets for O they will show you lots of tables of good and bad foods.

Jimbo

Hi Littlekit

Well look into what you should eat it has really helped me and become a great sources of unknown previous information to me and my family and friends.

Researching as we speak  thanks

What a load of complete cobblers!

This is yet another fad diet being touted here and marketed by its creator one Dr. D’Adamo who created The Blood Type Diets™ and wrote the book "Eat Right For Your Type".

I was going to comment personally but then found a reviewer who put it far better than I did

There are not many positive things to say about this diet, which is clearly based on science fiction rather than science fact. I’m really not a fan of this diet. It’s filled with pseudo-science and has the potential to scare people into avoiding many nutritious foods in an effort to lose weight. It’s also worth bearing in mind that although the diet gives the impression that it’s based on sound scientific research this is, in fact, far from the case. Ultimately, the theory is nonsense.

Nevertheless, based on Dr D’Adamo’s theory, I’m looking forward to the evolution of blood type F! People with blood type F will need lots of fast food, takeaways, pizza, sugary snacks, crisps and chocolate to remain in tune with their environment. After all, if the theory is correct, surely that’s what we can expect, based on what many of us now eat in the 21st century!

And this one

Critics cite a lack of published evidence backing D’Adamo’s blood type-baseddiet plan. “I know of no plausible rationale behind the diet,” says John Foreyt, PhD, a researcher at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Jimbo, I refer you yet again to the article I linked you to in your other post about Jelinek, you really need to read it…

Jimbo - how could you become a blood donor last year? Do you not have ms? I’m sure i was told that i couldn’t give blood because i have been dx with ms!!! Perhaps i’ve got it wrong? Teresa.

Hi I am B+, I also thought that you couldn’t give blood if you had MS but you cold still be an organ donor?? Interestingly I remember reading a fact sheet many years ago which said which illnesses each blood group was likely to be affected by and I distinctly remember Auto-Immune disorders, oh well I didn’t come down with my MS until I was 48!

I wondered that too but thought maybe it was different in the UK? Here in Australia we can’t donate blood with an MS diagnosis.

B

And that is a really objective opinion!

The lack of scientific evidence for the D’Adamo family’s theory has been stressed as recently as this year by Cusack et al in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Of course, this does not stop the D’Adamos (both Father and Son) from making a nice living out of it

I have been looking at it and can’t believe anyone could feel better on this type of diet! According to my blood group I shouldn’t eat dairy or any kinds of grains! I eat a low GI diet as my partner is diabetic and that is far more healthy than the blood group diet

[/quote] I was wondering the same. I used to give blood, but once I got MS, they politely declined. This is standard in the UK. Perhaps it is different elsewhere? Alison

Hi Everyone

Just to note I follow parts of the Blood Group diet, parts of what you should and shouldn’t eat with MS and partisipate in the fasting 5:2 plan…for me these have given me a focus on achieving a better understanding of my MS and body of which I wouldn’t have cared about over a year ago.

My aim is to let you all know that this works for me and if can give any help to any other MS suffer out there like me then that is a wonderful thing.

I gave blood pre my diagnoses with MS and have not since but have to say I did not realise you couldn’t when having MS so apologies there and trying to get blood test kit might be an alternative if it is of interest to you.

I believe all the above diet, lifestyle plans are what I have mixed and created for myself and what suits me, hell I’ve even had an intolerence test done to find what foods and E numbers I shouldn’t have!

Please see this as my guide to hopefully been able to help someone and if I can go from 20 stone to 14 stone and feel fanatastic given this shitty disease then why not…we all gotta think positive otherwise whats the point?!

Jimbo

I couldn’t donate even when I had an ovarian cyst. Pretty sure you can’t donate with MS

Lucky for you that you aren’t blood group B in which case “Dr. D’Adamo suggests that you wean yourself away from chicken and replace them with highly beneficial foods such as goat, lamb, mutton, rabbit and venison. Other foods that encourage weight loss are green vegetables, eggs, beneficial meats, and low fat dairy.”

Might have caused a bit of conflict with sticking to Jelinek’s diet at the same time since he reccomends not eating

  • Meat, including processed meat, salami, sausages, canned meat
  • Eggs except for egg whites
  • Dairy products; that is, avoid milk, cream, butter, ice cream and cheeses. Low fat milk or yoghurt is not acceptable. Cow’s milk and dairy products are best avoided altogether as the protein is likely to be as much of a problem as the saturated fat, given recent evidence.

Truly, Jimbo, do yourself a favour and in the hurry to find a solution to having MS don’t be in too desperate to adopt every new gimmicky idea you come across. For the first year at least just give yourself time to adjust to the idea of having the illness and follow your Dr’s advice until you have a better idea of how the MS is affecting you over a period of time. You will be living with this for the rest of your life… you don’t need to change everything this week

lf it works for you - then what is wrong - Well done Jimbo in controlling your weight.

l do the 5-2 - and l find it gives me more energy. l eat a high fat low carb diet. Keep off all bread/cereal/ etc. Lots of eggs fish meat salad and dark veg and berries.

You can’t give blood if you have MS - I was at a seminar on MS where one of the participants worked for the blood transfusion service - apparently the reasoning is that it’s not the risk of passing on the MS, but that they consider that your body probably has enough to do, without making up a pint of blood every six months - so you can be an organ donor.

Jimbo - if it works for you hun and its a healthy diet you can stick to then you just keep at. I would suggest you see a dietician - maybe once a month - just to keep an eye on you to make sure you are making yourself deficient in something.

Some types of diets work for some people & some don’t. I could never follow Atkins but I know people who lost loads of weight on it. So if you found one that suits you & makes you feel energised - keep at it.
