i’ve recently been diagnosed with M.S and was wondering if i would be liable to receive any help financially. I’m finding it very difficult to keep up with work and seem to be having quite a lot of time off now which im very conscious of and i’m starting to feel quite embarrassed about it. Its like every single daay is a challenge to work, sort the kids out, sort the house out etc. i want to work but i could reaally do with cutting my hours down a bit to level everything off the only thing is i cant afford to. i’m getting increasingly fed up and just feel like i’m failing everyone. The simplest little illness and i’m knocked out so that incurs time off work as well as if i have an attack. plus i can get horrendously dizzy for days on end. if i could get any financial help just to take the pressure off slightly i think i’d be ok but wasnt sure if i’d be liable. Does anybody know?
Welcome to the forum. I’m sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis…there are lots of great people on here, always happy to offer support and advice.
Make an appointment with citizens advice, regarding help with benefits. They will sort that problem for you.
I don’t work and my children are grown up but I know there are people on here who do. I’m sure when they read your message, they will pass on their knowledge.
The most obvious thing is Personal Indepence Payments (PIP), which has replaced DLA. If you get it, you should be able to get the disability component of working tax credits, which’ll help if you did reduce your hours,
Also, it’s worth checking out Access to Work. It’s a DWP thing to help people with disabilities to work. They can do an assessment and recommend, and sometimes pay form any equipment or adaptations that may help. For me, they pay for a taxi to & from work.
