Demyelination on MRI

Hello there.
Joined a little while ago because I suspected I had MS. Last week my GP confirmed demyelination lesion showing on my brain MRI.
Apparently I should have been automatically referred back to the Neurologist who ordered the scan but I haven’t due to an administrative cock up.
My question is - does this confirm that I have MS or could it be something else? GP wouldn’t be drawn and said I’d have to wait for the neurologist.
Be grateful for any information as I’ve had symptoms for about 15 years and I just want an answer.

Hi Wildswimmer. Definitely chase up the Neurologist appointment and ask direct questions about when will it be and, given the error can it be brought forward please!

So far as I know none of us on the Forum are medics and wouldn’t be able to say whether it’s MS or something else. From what I’ve read , lesions can result from various conditions and many people have a few lesions without any condition- symptoms at all. This can make MS difficult to diagnose and , again from what I know, the neurologist will consider your current and any past symptoms plus the MRI image. When you do see the Neurologist it’s a good idea to have a note of all your current and previous symptoms with you!

All the best

Thank you.
I’ll definitely chase things up.

I am sorry that you have to wait even longer to get to the bottom of things, but it really is up to the neurologist to look at your clinical history and scan evidence in the round and decide where to take it from there. I hope that you don’t have too long to wait.
