Contacting the DWP (semi rant)

This is perhaps unrelated to MS, but has anyone else had problems contacting the DWP about their PIP?

Our son has autism and receives a mobility and care PIP.

We are trying for a ‘border days’ claim, but phoning the DWP and answering 3 questions, we get the response ‘do you wish to continue’?

When replying 1 for YES, the line just goes dead.

Words like ‘PURPOSE’ ‘NOT’ ‘FIT’ ‘FOR’
spring to mind.

As a postscript to this thread, my wife phoned later and got through after a wait of 45 minutes.

Even then she was informed that the information she supplied would be checked by someone else, before allowing our claim.

The bureaucracy behind PIP is truly mind boggling.

:rage:

My case had not been PIP related but I feel for you. Every time I call them for other benefits I have to wait on the phone for about an hour. - Maria -

I have had an interesting time with the DWP, they killed me off! If you look through old posts (Maude then I think) you would find the whole sorry saga! Such a Snafu that they did most of the phoning took couple of months to sort out as they did one of those ‘send to all’ thing, NHS, tax office, council etc. etc. Hope my passport is OK, they say it is, soon find out!

Something is seriously amiss with the DWP here. I remember about 8 years ago when I did a spell of volunteering for Age Concern, where I visited oldies to get them Attendance Allowance.

I routinely used to call the DWP to check a few things and I could speak to a real person in minutes.

The whole outfit has fallen prey to Civil Service cuts, probably. Didn’t Suella Braveman call them ‘the blob’?

I share your frustration although not with the DWP.

I think all Gov departments are struggling and under resourced. My Dad died a couple of years ago and I acted as Executor for his estate. The relevant Dept lost ( or in their words ‘misplaced’) documents and just a month ago I had to explain that I personally don’t owe them any capital gains tax on the sale of his house because I was acting as Executor and never owned the house. They said : thank you, we have corrected our records.
