Hello.
I’ve had some news and I don’t really know how to digest it. Am hoping to get some wisdom really.
At the end of last year I went to see my GP because of recurring migraines and occasional dizzyness (which lasted about a week). Long story short, he sent me to the neurologist who asked me lots of questions (finding out I had an optic neuritis about 2.5 years ago), prescribed me amitriptyline and sent me for an MRI.
He called me yesterday to say I had “signs of MS” he’s booking me a lumbar puncture and some sort of eye scan. He didn’t want to go into too much details about MS but has referred me to the “MS Team” who I guess will go into everything in a lot more detail with me.
I’m not really sure what to do with this news, I feel quite numb about it. My wife is quite upset about it, but I’m not sure there is anything to worry about yet. Does “signs of MS” mean I have MS? Or does that mean there was some irregularities in the scan and that combined with symptoms “suggests MS”? I know this is an impossible question…
Am I right in thinking that the further tests are to confirm MS or would they be to confirm how bad?
I know this is pretty much impossible to answer but I felt I needed to put it out there and reach out to this community.
Thanks!
Hello hun.
I know how scary all this can be. Please try to calm your wife`s fears and wait until your next appointment with the neuro.
It does sound like he strongly thinks you have MS.
he shouldnt really have mentioned ms until he was sure. But he has and now you have to wait.
As I expect you know, there are 4 types of ms and depending on which you have, depends on what medication would help you.
It can take a good while to get a firm diagnosis and then it takes a good time more to assimilate the news, the medications etc.
Having contact with a good MS nurse will help…
There are umpteen members here and others around the world who have ms, but manage to still live a good life. The trick is to have a good network of support and to pace your activities so as not to wear yourself out. Therefore rest days are very important.
Thi forum is a great place, where everyone tries to support each other and we understand what everyone is going through.
luv Pollxx
Thanks for the reply Poll, appreciate your thoughts. It’s going to be a long 4-5 weeks to the next appointment!
Hi
I’d say pretty much the same as Poll…try not to worry, easier said than done I know!
Sounds as if the neuro thinks MS is a possibility, the LP is probably the next step to diagnosis…just be aware that you might still need to have more tests before a positive dx.
I understand you both feeling shocked but give yourselves time to digest the news, it doesn’t have to be all bad.
Your MS Team will explain everything & answer any questions you may have, it’s a good idea to keep a note of what’s happening.
Keep chatting on this forum, there’s a font of knowledge here from all ages…it really isn’t all bad.
Good luck
Rosina
