Christmas present from DLA

I got a letter from the DLA last week saying that they were giving me a £10 bonus as a Christmas present, woohoo a whole £10 that’s gonna make a difference aint it?

Has anybody else in recipt of DLA been given a Christmas bonus?

wont make too much difference but £10 is better than nothing

Hello Raggamuffin,

I also got the annual Christmas tenner. But the thing that I don’t understand is that I have had MS for 25 years, and even back then it was a tenner! Has no one there ever heard of the word “inflation?” Maybe they never increase the amount because they fear that we will quibble about any paltry increases. Anyway, because this tenner won’t alter a thing in my life in any way, I send it to charity.

Yo ho ho & all that,

Moira

Hi, yeh, I get my annual tenner. Gonna put it towards the leccy bill…probably cover about 30 minutes worth!

luv Pollx

Tenner??? What tenner? Never had one and been on DLA for ever.

Yhea I get it too & been on DLA 16yrs. Might flutter it away on a lucky dip or two, you never know I might get lucky

You could donate it to a food bank charity for people who are unable to afford to eat. I didn’t get a bonus but I did donate a bag of food to our local food bank Saturday.

It doesn’t seem like much, one bag of groceries, but they assured me any and all donations were much appreciated because people are literally going hungry.

DLA is a qualifying benefit you should get it. I never get a letter but £10.00 appears in my bank account first week in December. Check your statement - it might be there and you’ve never noticed.

This is my first year on DLA so I didn’t know about this, won’t make much of a difference but I’m not going to be ungrateful about it, plenty of stuff you can get for £10 or less.

I didn’t get a letter but just checked my bank account and it went in this morning.

[/quote] if your on another benefit you might find its gone in with that, I think you get it for a number if benefits but you only get it once, I’ve never received a letter it just goes in Around first week December.

When the £10 bonus came out for pensioners it would buy a pretty decent Christmas dinner, in fact a weeks food for someone, so imagine what the same bonus would be worth now - £100 perhaps.

I believe it was introduced by Ted Heath way back because pensioners were finding it hard to eat even way back then - just imagine how pensions have deteriorated due to inflation - and yes, now benefits!

Good idea to give it to the food bank via food. Im afraid my son is now out of work again, so every little helps here, Im finding inflation is taking away more of our money faster than its coming in. Ill still do my bit though by little presies for those who dont get them as its a Christian thing to do at Christmas. A very happy one to all by the way.

Thanks all. Will keep an eye on the bank statement. Have been paid with “Giros” up until this year, and carers used to cash them, plus other benefits, so just might have missed seeing my tenner. If so, my abject apologies to the DLA.

Hi guys got my letter today to inform me of my ten pound christmas bonus, something is better than nothing it is more than some get, my wife works for the local council and never gets any bonus the only bonus she gets is she has a job for next year at least. Enjoy your bonus everyone
