Cannabis

Going anon guys hence the title. I’ve heard a lot about cannabis and ms and I’m just wondering how much of it is actually true. How many of us do use it and get benefits from it? I know it’s illegal but curiosity is getting the better of me! If something could help my symptoms it’s worth a try. Look forward to replies.

I’m going ‘anon’ too!

I use it. Every day, well evening. One spliff, homegrown, mixed with tobacco. I don’t tolerate prescription drugs very well, and it really helps with pain and spasms/cramps. It also relaxes me enough to get off to sleep ok more often than not.

I know there’s a lot of hoo-ha about the psycological and cognitive effects, and of course, smoking tobacco is bad for you, no question, but purely personally I feel the reward balances the risk for me.

It’s a minefield though, obviously it’s illegal, you need to be sure what you’re smoking, weed is much stronger these days, and solid can contain all sorts of rubbish, so I avoid that like the plague.

I’m not recommending using cannabis, but it works for me!

Thanks for being honest. Are you on any DMD’s?

That looks like I’ve written post doesn’t it ha. I’m just asking because I’m interested in this subject too x

i have smoked cannabis a few times and found it took away the pain in my legs.

but the last couple of times it has caused me to have a whitey

so you must be careful with it.

i suppose homegrown makes that better because you know it hasnt been tampered with

I wouldnt touch the stuff. Think about the longterm damage it causes against the benefits. Yes it may relieve pain but it causes psychological problems and thats not a good thing with a disease that affects the brain. I have 2 mates who are now schizo due to longterm dope use. I will stick to the usual neuropathic painkillers. This is just my opinion and do not want to open a can of worms

No way, ever.

Will try when/if the pain and aches become more servere. But i would rather grow than run the risk buying some. You can never be sure what its mixed with.

The thing that’s always fascinated me about this is that everyone says rec drugs and their side effects are bad but we don’t even know the long term side effects of most DMDs to treat MS but we use them?

hear hear mini!

smoking anything is not something i would consider.

ellie (who doesnt take dmds through choice)

Who knows what the longterm effects of dmds are, but one thing is for sure cannabis has proven negative effects.

I spent 10 years after i left school at raves every weekend and took upteem amounts of ecstacy pills and cocaine. I believe they are the cause of my ms. I even asked the neuro if this was the case. Of course it wasnt. Or thats what i was told

There is a lot of over the counter medicine that would shock you what’s in it. NICE easy access at your local chemist !

I am huge proponent of Cannabis as it is a natural substance. These are a few facts concerning Cannaabis. Yes people have the right to be worried about the the cannabis strains that have a high THC content. What people DON’T know is that cannabis also has something called CBD (cannabidiol) in it and it is THIS that has the therapeutic properties in it although the science community is finding out the THC can have its uses to especially in treating alzheimers.

Cannabis is going back to the pure forms which have a low THC and high CBD content and it is these strains that are the best for MS. I can state, having used this medicainal marijuana personally, that it is a lot better than the high THC strains. Why I hear you ask? The little know fact is that if there equal quantites of THC and CBD in the strain then the high CBD content negates the effect of the THC thereby the user is not stoned at all when they use it.

It drives me up the wall that there are people out there who follow the government line and say that cannabis has no medicinal use whatsoever! I beg to differ as I know that when I use medical cannabis ALL of my symptoms improve including mobility and I rarely fall when I have it ad I do that quite regularly when I don’t. Cannabis canonly bring out shcizophrenia in people if a) they have a predisposition tpwards it and the cannabis brings it out more quickly or 2) they start usiung high THC cannabis as 13/14 year old before their brain has fully matured and this can cause schizophrenia to become worse. It would also be good to bear in mind that only 0.3% of the population have it and, to me, this kinda puts into into context.

It doesn’t have been to be smoked. It can be eaten or vaporised. Vaporising is when it is heated to release the THC and CBD and this is inhaled so there is no smoke involved at all and it is been scientifically proven to be the best least dangerous way of taking it with NO side effects that smoking it with tobacco or even neat has.

Chubbster

I smoke green when in pain, helps more then any percription drug

Chubster, you said it right.Anybody under the age of 22-23 using cannabis runs the risk of exacerbating pre-existing psychological issues which may not appear until later life if ever.My PCT along with the majority of them will not prescribe SATIVEX which is formulated to be as well balanced as possible, because of the results of a trial which suits them perfectly because it might cost £5K-7K annually for somebody who has very high levels of pain, but is nowt compared to some of the DMDs.

I’ve got it in writing from one of the worlds leading pain specialists that the trial was flawed, but leaving thousands of us with chronic pain is better than spending money. But that’s MS,“If you haven’t got it ,you don’t get it” When will the ‘experts’ realise that we all have our own version and hence slightly different reactions to drugs If they were the slightest bit interested in helping they could give those with pain a cannister to try and if it works it gets prescribed,if not it doesn’t.Nobody will ever know if a DMD has actually slowed progression.Oh, there would be a way if there were identical twins who had never been apart, were diagnosed at the same time, and one got drugs and one didn’t.

Apparently an English company developed Sativex, but it is now made by Bayer, which is German. This makes me wonder about who knew the NHS wasn’t going to buy the stuff when Bayer bought the rights.

There is NHS paranoia over cannabanoids,'cos the pain expert prescribed me NABULONE(?) when they wouldn’t prescribe Sativex, but it is Cannadoodah so they wouldn’t prescribe it. Bob Marley must be spinning.

Well this mini rant has distracted me a bit from the pain for 35 minutes,so thanks for that,

Wb

ps I have a ludicrous theory that the drug companies may be influencing what Badge people are given on diagnosis, depending on the criteria for prescribing a particular drug and what the PCT will pay for.Does this create a rollover for the Postcode Lottery. The Drug companies and the Packaging Industry run this country

Hi

I have a vaporiser, does the trick nicely!

I only have a smoke once every couple of weeks, I have an excellent nights sleep and little pain in my legs at night.

I don’t particularly want it to become regular, hence every couple of weeks.

I am such a lightweight with it, just like alcohol, i am usually in tears of laughter!!

Tried the odd space cake, found it hard to have the right amount and had an entertaining but slightly scary night on the cake.

Enjoy

Thanks everyone for your replies. It’s given me a lot to think about to say the least!

Well done on the ex thing Stan. You might find that Cannoffee eases your bowels possibly with virtually no warning.I tried cookies last year and that’s what happened. It wasn’t predictable enough to be useful and ‘safe’.I did try sitting on the bog eating a bit,but after 20 minutes I got bored and cut off the circulation to all bits South of the U bend.

If you do brew up I’d love to know how it went.Decaff?

Be lucky,

Wb <(*L+)>

I use it every day. It is the only thing I use, only in the evening, before I go to bed. It relaxes me, stops my restless, aching legs and helps me sleep. I have no side effects from it at all.

Neither did my brother for several years, until his first major psychotic episode. He was told by his psychiatrist to stop smoking it and it was only one joint a day in the evening to help him sleep. He didn’t and ended up having another major psychotic episode and being admitted to a psychiatric ward. His mental health was badly damaged and still is. I hate the stuff and what it’s done to my family. It destroyed him and us. It’s illegal for a reason.
