I’ve already gone AD!!!
Run, he says. Ha! Chance would be a fine thing. My running days are long since gone. I occasionally manage to scumber along (that’s a cross between scamper and lumber), but that’s the best I can do.
As for today being better, it’s all relative. I’m not as brain fogged as I was yesterday, which is good. My left leg isn’t as painful as it was, which is very good. I am having problems with weakness and shakiness which have been going on for about a week, and that’s not so good. Still, one of my mottos is, “Wherever you go, whatever you do, somebody somewhere is worse off than you.” At least I can walk with some kind of aid, and I have book stands for printed books and my Kindle for e-books, so I can still read.
Hopefully I’ll be better by the weekend. We’re going on holiday to Yorkshire for a week, starting with the Whitby Steampunk Weekend. I’m looking for to that. We’ve done the Whitby Goth Weekend several times and we’ve taken to dressing up for the occasion. So if any of you is in Whitby this weekend, keep your eyes open for a couple in pseudo-Victorian explorer outfits. I’d love to post a picture for you, but I’m not sure how to do it.
Sound’s lovely Cheerful, would be right up my street a Goth festival, in fact I’ve just Googled it, I wish you could post a piccy, can I come, I’d fit in lovely!!! Have a fantastic time, I’m jealous looks brilliant xx
ooooooh Cheerful, the more I look at the piccies the more I want to go, I’d even stop in a ‘can’ again if I had too! I might see you there yet! xx
Steampunk is soooo cool. I’m not nearly cool enough for that. Have a fabulous time. And scumbering sounds like it does the job, so scumber away.
Sue
Dressing up isn’t essential but it does add to the fun. Some Goths have complained about the number of non-Goths who turn up in costume. They reckon it’s turning the weekend into a fancy dress occasion. (Some women’s costumes are so low cut that they’re obscene, IMO.) This Autumn’s Goth Weekend will be particularly bad for the “fancy dress” element - it coincides with Halloween, so there’ll be loads of kids dressed up as witches or Dracula.
A number of people have taken pictures of Hubby and me at the various steampunk events we’ve attended, but I can’t find the pictures online. I’ll have to upload some of the pictures Hubby took.
I’d pass as a Goth Cheerful, as for them complaining about ‘non Goths’ what the!!! I was the only bloody heavy rocker in a ska concert last year (bit hard to disguise the AC/DC tattoo on my arm, not that I would have anyway) in my youth I would have been bait in a mod concert, but nowadays its fine (we are all too old for fighting might be the reason) but it’s not exclusive to be a miserable git, dressed in black & pondering on the dead (probably why I’ll fit in)! Don’t think I’m out of order saying the ‘Goths’ are in fancy dress anyway & have taken it to the extreme. You have a ball Cheerful, I am pretty sure I will be attending myself + mate (already messaged!!) much respect girlie, & if I do manage to come I would love to see you in all your finery for real!! xx
We have two different steampunk outfits, one for warm days and one for cooler days. My warm day outfit is a beige skirt, brown shirt or white blouse, French pith helmet with light brown scarf hanging down the back, brown “gladiator” sandals. I’ll probably be using a wooden walking stick and I’ll have a black and cream umbrella slung across my back. I’ll have a brown leather pouch decorated with a velociraptor hanging from my belt. Hubby will be wearing the men’s equivalent of my outfit with a British pith helmet.
My cool day outfit will be a black calf-length satin skirt, white shirt, purple corset, black jacket, black ankle boots and a black junior top hat with a black scarf with pink skulls tied round it. The umbrella and walking stick will be as above. Or I might be wearing a black lace blouse. The rest is definite.
I must upload those photos!
The Whitby Goth Weekend started as a twice-a-year Goth music festival, which it still is (one of the biggest in the world, afaik, if not the biggest). Non-Goths have joined in the fun over the years to the extent that you’ll find as many non-Goths as Goths. Most Goths don’t mind and the founder admits that WGW has to evolve and change if it’s going to continue. (There’s also a Goth market held at various locations around the town. You can buy all kinds of weird and interesting things.)
The Steampunk Weekend is something different. It was first held at Whitby in February this year, so this weekend will be the second they’ve had. Check out the Steampunk Weekend website for more information.
You must Cheerful!! Mate very up for it, now all I’ve got to do is get out of a wedding, oh & inform Mr Dc when he gets homexx
Didn’t I see you in the Co-op this morning?
I am going to upload some photos, but in the meantime, Hubby managed to find some pictures of us online. The website is ruralshots.com. Tap on Steampunk at Quainton and scroll a long way down till you find some “arty” pictures of a lady’s pith helmet on a chair, with an umbrella resting against the chair. The hat and umbrella are mine. A bit further along you’ll see pictures of a man and woman in beige “explorers” outfits posed in front of a train. That’s Hubby and me. They’re not great pictures - I hate the way the strap of my umbrella holster emphasises my left b∞b. Those are the outfits we’ll be wearing for at least one day at Whitby.
Oh, and it’s a steampunk weekend, so you could go to the wedding and do Whitby for a day (although we’re doing the whole weekend as part of a week’s holiday).
Found you Cheerful!!! Very smart (love the umbrella) could be an outing, we are in consultation, so to speak! Weddings not til sunday, so heres hoping xx
You’ve only seen the umbrella closed. It’s even better open. I’ll have to find a picture of it.
Well Cheerful, you’ve met me today & I’ve met you, albeit virtually, if I can possibly get to Whitby (I will be suitably dressed, in black, but not too much on show!!!) it would be nice to meet in person, perhaps if it’s possible we could arrange something? entirely up to you if you would like to xxx
Black isn’t essential for a steampunk weekend. In fact the saying goes that “Steampunk is what happened when Goths discovered the colour brown.” (Steampunk is best described as futuristic Victorian, hence the outfits/costumes people wear.) Come in whatever you like. I hope you can make it. I’m not sure where to suggest for meeting up, or what time to meet. The easiest place to find is the swing bridge over the river, but it gets very busy round there as the day goes on. It also depends on when you can get there.
It might be best if we continue this via messages.
I always wear black Cheerful anyway, no worries, if I spot a lady with a very nice umbrella I’ll know it’s you my best friend has been before so at least she knows what’s what. Might end up logistically hard anyway (pending wedding & time factor) apparently it’s 5 hours on the train, 9 on a bus & 4 in a car, would be certainly a push. Going to see what progresses! xx
ah tracey and cheerful dragon
i’m so jealous.
love whitby and people who dress differently.
it’s just so poo that it’s a long drive from bolton!
have a blast!
