Hi
When eating, as soon as the food hits my stomach I am running for the toilet. Painful bowel cramps and urgency but not always diarrhea. Only happens every now and then.
Does anyone else experience this and is it a symptom of MS?

Hi
Bowel incontinence can be a symptom, but this doesn’t sound like normal incontinence to me - the painful cramps make it sound more like Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Have you noticed if certain types of food trigger it? I used to get it and realised it generally happened after eating too much cheese. So I cut right down on that, and I’ve not had a problem since. I’d speak to your GP though and see what they say.

Bladder and bowel issues are - l think - the worst part of MS. After years of problems - mine being ‘rapid transit’ and dreadful diarrhoea - l now seem to have better control of the problem. l have for a few years been taking a high dose vit d3 and also Probiotic Acidophilus and now l have cut out all grain - so no bread/cakes/cereal/biscuits and my problem is more stable. l find carbs are my worst enemy - now l eat high protein /very low carb - plenty of veg/salad/greek yoghurt/ apple cider vinegar. l did not improve over night - it took a while. But as soon as l eat any bread or a scone/doughnut l know it. l also find that the more carbs you eat - the hungrier they make you. Eating just one biscuit soon leads to eating the whole packet.
l hope you find some relief soon as this just takes over your life. lt makes eating out such an ordeal as you are worrying abot where the nearest loo is and will you get there quick enough.
