Cheers Mike, read them and they were surprisingly good but as I have such a bad memory these days, I could read them again.

I would highly recommend anything by Paulo Coelho… Particularly:
The Alchemist
Veronika Decides to Die
Winner Stands Alone
Eleven Minutes
I really can’t get enough of this author and I constantly await his latest book. His work is very thought provoking and once I start a book I can not put it down… There is also the added advantage that his chapters are always short, which should be helpful if you have a short concentration span…
Happy Reading x

My daughter has been reading these books - she is going to pass them on to me - they must be good - because my daughter rarely reads a novel.
Hi,
James Herbert
Stephen King
Both brilliant authors

Hi Wendy,
I’m an avid reader and I bought a Kindle with an audio facility and sit happily listening to books when I’m too tired to read them. I love real life stories, mysteries or thrillers, sci fi, teach yourself books, well anything really. I liked the Girl with the dragon tattoo series. James Patterson is an easy read Postcard Killers, Private, swimsuit, any of the Alex Cross series, Sail, Worst case. I also like David Hosp Next of Kin which was a Richard and Judy book club book. Then there’s Nicci French: The Safe House, Losing you, Catch me when I fall, the memory game, killing me softly. I look down the top 10 books and get through these quickly and they are always replenishing. I wasn’t enamoured by the Dan Brown conspiracy series. Oldies but goodies include the Dune series.
I read practically every book I can get hold of and Kindle and Amazon have made this cheaper for me. I sometimes read 4-5 books at the same time flitting from one to another - if I get weary of reading one I skip to another. It brings me out of my horrid reality of living with MS and opens a world that I can live in whilst the book lasts. I love reading, I love the joy of transporting myself into other people’s characters and lives. I’m not a fantasist though I know my reality, but often need a break from it.
Hope this helps, Mary
room by emma donaghue is very easy to read, thought provoking and in my opinion brilliant.

I would highly recommend ‘Grace Williams says it LOUD’ by Emma Henderson - brilliant book, touching, thought provoking and very easy to read. The story is told through the thoughts of a woman with a learning disability (from childhood to present day) and how she was treated and her interpretation of life.

(thanks for this thread - I’m always looking for new authors to try and have written down some of the names that have been suggested - will try to get a trip to the library this aft…)
I’ve just finished 11.22.63 by Stephen King - not a horror novel, I hasten to add - vvvgood read…
Audio books have become my favourite way to enjoy good books and relax.
Recommended reads : Robert Harris’ The Fear Index for a good thriller . Set in 2010 and still very topical so it feels that it could really be true.
There’s really not enough good comic novels but Marina Lewycka is good.
Rankin - I enjoy him too - although I prefer the newer Complains series to Rebus.
Sorry, off topic from the original thread, but…
I had a trial membership of Audible (now part of Amazon, I think), but thought the “books” excessively expensive, compared to their paper equivalents, or even to music albums. I concluded it was a rip-off. Do you manage to find audio books at reasonable prices?
Tina
Gotta go with what Jellybean suggested…the Fifty Shades Trilogy. (Fifty shades of grey, Fifty shades deeper and Fifty shades freed) But be warned, it is quite pornographic. But written very well. I loved all 3 books and read them in as many days! Xx

Hello, 2 thoughts - you could buy second hand books from a charity shop and so help the charity and pick up some good books cheaply too. Second thought is what I often do with the more complex books (which I also find hard to follow the detail of, because I tend to read to settle myself down for bed and then get so tired I have literally lost the plot by the next night!!) is to read it once for the basic plot and storyline and then to go straight back and re-read and pick up the little quirks and clues I missed the first time, That way I really get the story and remember it so much better.
I love reading. Am currently reading ‘The Duchess’ on which the film is based.By Amanda Foreman. This is a biography but I love psychological thrillers and books about relationships and people I can identify with.
have fun whatever you choose

Hi Wendy
I just love reading! I really enjoy crime and thriller. Karin Slaughter is a great writer. Her books about a pathologist and a police cheif (Sarah & Geff) are the best, others about FBI are harder to read.
Erica Spindler is a good author too, another crime writer, also very easy to read and put down when struggeling with concentration. both of these are American.
Mark Billingham is a great English writer, who concentrates on a detective called Tom Thorne, I have read all his books and KNOW Tom so well!!! I would start with Scaredy Cat or sleepyhead as stories do not follow as such but he will build on Tom Thorne and his life & these were his earlier novels, and in later ones Toms really evolves and his life changes.
Hope this helps, would love to fine another Tom Thorne fan!
