Can anyone offer any experience on bladder issue can it range from leakage to full incontinence? After having three children I’m well versed in the crossing your legs when you sneeze situation however the last couple weeks the problem has been happening without the sneeze or the cough or the jump! The urgency issue has at times been frightening
I know I should probably rule out an infection (no symptoms) but if it’s not is it something I need to “log” with the GP so to speak? Any insight is appreciated I know it’s a delicate issue to discuss!
I logged a similar issue and was referred to Women’s Health Physio. I can’t say it was a miracle cure but it has certainly made life a lot easier.
Hi love. This is a subject I’m well versed in.
Have you been diagnosed with MS?
If so, this is one of the most common issues.
There are drugs to help calm the bladder. Ask to be referred to Bladder & Bowel clinic.

Hi no not yet evidence going that way - lesions, bands etc but I can’t assume anything just yet! It may just be a coincidence and not linked to my ongoing issues but I’m definitely going to seek help. It’s pretty unpleasant and it wasn’t until I sat down and realised how I was adjusting by behaviour to avoid any problems
Always pad/pants - very useful whilst getting to the bottom of what is causing the issue. Definitely log the issue.
As you say, rule out a UTI first. If no UTI, ask for a referral to Urology who can check for any physical issues that may be causing the problem; they can help you figure out the best way to deal with the problem, be that kegel exercises, medication etc.
Due to my MS, I cannot feel when my bladder is full which led to not emptying properly, multiple UTIs, an overly extended bladder and leakage - sometimes BIG leakage, which is never a good thing. Urology were brilliant; I have to use intermittent self catheterisation now - which is not as bad as it sounds, and I haven’t had a UTI (touch wood), or leakages, since I started ISC.
Thank you all for sharing your advice it is much appreciated 🩷
I’m very familiar with this. Urge incontinence and bladder not emptying fully caused by MS. I’ve not had children. Ask your GP or MS nurse for referral to the continence team.
They will scan to see if you’re retaining and how much.
You can learn to intermittently self catheterise to fully empty which might help. It’s not so bad as it sounds and it’s very easy. There are various medications which might help Solifenacin, Tolterdine, Oxybutynin and if they fail Mirabegron. For me it only had limited success. I now have BOTOX injections in the bladder wall and I self catheterise to empty my bladder. It starts to wear off but can last up to nine months, and has to be repeated. It might not get to that for you. It has transformed my life, no more worrying about finding accessible toilet quickly enough, do I smell, am I leaving a damp patch, and dealing with soggy pads.
Don’t suffer in silence. PM me if you want.
