For the last few years I’ve been suffering from the following symptoms and only recently have I had the mind to look into it as I feel the doctors are going round in circles with me… Do you think I should approach my doctor about MS? I have acute anxiety and chronic depression although medication doesn’t seem to take the edge away. Pains in my right leg that gets worse the more stressed I feel. Light headed and feeling like I’m not actually there. Hot and cold feelings coming and going for no reason at all… And myright eye feels achy when I look around. I feel daft asking the doctor if it’s not a possibility so what do u guys and girls think and how should I approach it?
If you have worrying symptoms, I think that you should certainly raise them with your GP, but I would caution you to think carefully before letting on that you are worrying about MS.
The trouble is, if you go in there saying that you think you might have MS, that will tend to channel the consultation into a very narrow course. I think it is often more productive to present the picture of what has been going on, and leave it to the doctor to decide what the issues are and how best to proceed. You might think MS: the GP might think something completely different. I have to tell you that, ‘I think I have MS’ can be a bit of a red rag statement to your average GP, and that goes with bells on when a person has a history of anxiety and depression.
So, definitely see your GP - you are worried, and so you need to set your mind at rest. But I would suggest going in with a completely open mind.
Good luck.
