I’m currently under investigation for as something which if it’s not ms it’s doing a great fancy dress party disguise of it!!
Seeing Neuro again next Monday.
Now, last night I wasn’t feeling as tired as usual and just saying as much to hubby when ability to speak went, face dropped(part if my symptoms is numb right side including face) but this was worse, eyes blacked, right arm totally dead and I fell gently to side on sofa. I was fully conscious and could hear but could not talk or move hubby very kindly flicked me in the forehead to get me to go to bed!! Was finally able to speak while still unable to open eyes or move to tell him what was going on then slowly “came round”. It’s like I fell asleep while conscious!! once awake felt absolutely fine, if anything slightly better than normal!
anybody have a clue and do I add it to symptom diary or was it such a brief one off I leave it? felt quite serious yet I’m also not anxious about it as was fully aware throughout and recovered fine.
I’m not an expert but I have to say it doesn’t sound like MS. As far as I know MS wouldn’t make you unresponsive like that and certainly not for a short duration as you’ve said. Even with relapsing remitting most symptoms have to be their over 24hours… There are many other conditions that came to mind that you could have - vitamin deficiencies, iron, thyroid, myasthenia… I remember (I work in a hospital) helping a patient who I was talking to, I was a student at the time - he just suddenly ‘collapsed’ in a gentle way in his chair and was unresponsive as you mentioned for a few mins. He eventually came round (got the fright of my life). It turns out he had Myasthenia. I’m not saying that’s what you have - I’m not medical, but it may be worth keeping and open mind.
I’m not sure where you are on your diagnostic journey or what your other symptoms are but hope you get some answers. I’m sure the others will have some thoughts about whether this is typical of MS - I’m not diagnosed so I’m certainly not an expert so maybe worth seeing what the others say.
I think it’s certainly important, as it’s not right, whatever it is, so don’t leave it off the symptom list.
But I’ve got to agree with Reemz that it’s not sounding typical of MS. But that might be an important clue in itself. If it’s more typical of something else (though I’ve no idea what) it might save a lot of barking up the wrong tree.
I’m a diagnosed person, but not so far been “unresponsive” with MS. Also, those symptoms I DO have don’t tend to be as shortlived as that. I occasionally have a very severe cramp, that’s bad for about 15 minutes, but nothing else that comes on that suddenly, and disappears just as suddenly.
I used to have blackouts during which I could hear, but couldn’t move, see or speak. This was finally diagnosed as “borderline epilepsy” (or “tendency to epilepsy”), but I have always wondered if it was a precursor to my MS. Mine were often triggered by heat, but also by strobe lights. There is a greater chance of having epilepsy if you have MS, but the two conditions are not normally linked.
Not sure how useful that was, however, I thought it might be reassuring to know that I am still alive and kicking and I must have experienced dozens if not hundreds of these weird blackouts over the years!
