I was in a store yesterday and saw something I felt concern for.
The store is a big one, but it being Christmas, the aisles are stuffed full of stuff!
I use a moderately sized electric wheelchair and sometimes have to do u turns in shops or I can’t get round. There have been occasions when I’ve demolished parts of stands, or taken displays apart…there was one time when I was almost home before realising I had one shoe attached to my headrest!!!
So what concerned me about yesterday.? An elderly and rotund lady had come into the store and got stuck! Her over large scooter’s side panel was jammed by the security scanner. Someone tried pushing and shoving…nowt!
The lady got off and was able to stand. Then the electric motor failed. I suggested they find the motor release levers are and push it on freewheel. Couldn’t find them.
Oh I did feel for the poor lass with everyone looking at her and she was blocking the exit. Eventually a bit of power was found and the lady and scooter limped out of the shop! She’d bought nowt!!!
I thought I bet some commission seeking mobility salesman had sold her that massive buggy, but didn’t say how difficult it would be to go inside shops with it!
That or the lady was a true Yorkshire lass, who knew her own mind and WANTED a big scooter.
Either way, I’ll bet she’s not a happy bunny!!!
Beware would be scooter buyers! Consider where you want to ride!
