Back spasms- shit mattress or MS??

Hi guys,
I just wanted to pick your brains to help me.
I’ve had back issues on and off for at least 20 years, waaaaaaay before being diagnosed with RRMS in 2020. It’s been sporadic with long periods of being fine.
In the past 3 and a bit years ( a bit of a guess as to how long!!) I changed my mattress to a memory foam as I thought it would help and be supportive. It was ok to start but I ended up sending it back as it was like laying in a blamange and I sank into it and was finding it hard to get out of it!! So I sent it back and was lucky enough to get a refund. I ordered a new mattress ( 1700 quid!!) which was one with a topper which is attached and it’s a no turn mattress. After a short while I noticed there was a distinct groove forming where I was lying. By now I had been diagnosed, I carried on sleeping on it, but started to notice slight back ache in the morning, and then on one occasion I woke up in agony, my back had gone into a complete spasm-never had one before, I couldn’t stand up straight, I could hardly walk, my hips were sore as were my legs!! I decided to sleep in the spare bed, which is a single IKEA bed, never had another issue.
This Wednesday I was got Covid, My worse symptoms were a banging headache and neck ache like I have never had. As I felt so ill and tired I decided to spend my days back in the double bed. After 3 nights…… wow back spasm again, just like before, with pain in my hips and legs. I know Covid can make MS symptoms worse, but surely this has to be a mattress issue and not my MS.??
All the time I have been in the single bed, I have not had one issue with my back. As soon as I am in it, here we go again!!
I do have a fear it’s the MS so I thought I would reach out to you guys and get your thoughts from your own experience and maybe some peace of mind? Thanks guys.

I’ve actually done better with a cheap mattress. I don’t know if they’re available in the UK, but mine is an 8-inch innerspring that costs around 100 USD and lasts 5-8 years. I tried the first one when I was broke, and I liked it so much that we got them for everyone in the household.

Over the years, I tried sleeping everywhere: On the floor, the sofa, outdoors, an expensive mattress, firm ones, soft ones, in the bathtub, a waterbed, and even one that was more than 50 years old. MS means that we’re not going to have 100% restful nights, but I’ve very rarely awakened with actual pain since switching to this cheap mattress.
