Aches !!!

Hi guys,
I have been diagnosed with RRMS for just over a year, and despite the mental health issues of getting your head around it , I am not too bad. I’m taking Tecfidera and I am into the 5th month with it.
My question is in relation to aching which seems to come and go in my thighs. I didn’t have any at all but it started to creep in and seems to get worse, then all of a sudden it’s gone!!
Ive recently changed my mattress which then seemed to make it worse with back ache, hip pain etc. So I ordered a brand new Simba Luxe mattress, a memory foam job with springs in it . I woke one morning with the worse hip pain I’ve ever had and then I get back ache. I sleep on the bed again for a few nights with no issues at all. I find it all confusing as I ask myself if it’s the mattress causing issues, or is the MS??
I have just come back from a weekend away and slept in a tiny bed, nothing fancy ( it can’t have been as it was Butlins!!!) it was really comfy and had no issues at all.
Yesterday I woke with really aching thighs, really uncomfortable, and had to take pain killers. I then remembered I had piggy backed my great niece for a bout ten minutes, she weights about 6 stone-ish. So I think was it doing that which caused the aching. But it seems a massive amount of pain and discomfort for something that seems so minor.
I can’t figure out if it’s the mattress, the MS, or the effect of doing something so minor as a piggy back is too much???
Can I ask for your thoughts/ experiences which could help me get my head around what’s going on!!!
Many thanks :+1:t2::+1:t2:

It’s the MS. Learn how to treat the aches as they occur. I’ve discovered that if I sleep with a hot water bottle, either on my lower back or between my thighs, then I’m much better the next day.

Hi, I tend to think it’s the mattress, np problems at Butlins, but resurfaces when you’re home. I have RRMS and have been on Tecfidera for over 2.5 years with no issues from either side effects or pain, sleeping or otherwise.
Maybe you should seek professional opinion, I’m in HR therefore mine and most opinions on here will be anecdotal. Good luck.

Hi, Like you I have a deep memory foam mattress with springs beneath (and mine’s on a sprung base). I love it, and have had it some time now. I don’t recognise the aches that you’re reporting; I’m more likely to get discomfort in my lower legs, but MS affects us all differently. Btw, the bed cost me a small fortune but was worth every penny, and when it wears out I won’t hesitate in buying another.
I think the piggy-backing sounds a bit suspect, and certainly wouldn’t call it ‘minor’ when the great niece weighs 6 stone.
Hoping things improve soon,
Ben

I have RRMS and get aches like that in my legs that come and go. In fact had them today in my thighs. Like NorasMum I find heat helps. I have a heated throw over my legs with my feet up and that helps or electric blanket in bed! I know on warmer days that’s not really an option though! Maybe ask your neurologist or MS nurse about nerve pain relief. I find if I increase my usual dose slightly, it helps too
