Leg/hip ache

Hi I was diagnosed with relapsing MS in 2019, recently my right leg/calf and foot has felt different, kind of like I’ve slept funny or been leaning on it but it doesn’t go back to normal. I have also had some hip ache on that side too, its not always the same but has ached in my calf and foot etc for about a week and feels odd. Is this connected to my MS? do i need to tell my MS nurse? its new to me, is there anything i can do to help it? please thanks

I would think that any new problem should be mentioned to your MS nurse.

For hip and thigh aches, I use hot water bottles at night, placed either on my lower back or between my thighs.

For your calf and feet, have you tried elevating them when you sleep or finding a way to keep the blankets from trapping them?

I wasn’t certain it was MS related. Thanks for the tips and advice, I haven’t tried that no.

Definitely mention it to your team.

I get a lot of lower back / hip / glutes pain and numbness going down my left leg so feel somewhat qualified.

It could be directly related to your diagnosis and a new development. It could also be a secondary issue. Because you have a condition, perhaps you don’t exercise as much as before? Or maybe now you need to exercise more? I’m down on my yoga mat / foam roller / exercise bike sometimes 3 times a day, just to keep mobility, flexibility & strength in the affected areas. That may not be relevant but it might work for you too. Use it or lose it etc.

I have emailed my MS nurse and asked her opinion.

I’m not sure what it is, which is why i put it on here and emailed the nurse. I didn’t exercise before or after lol, apart from walking my dogs. I have been told exercise helps, I just haven’t so far, maybe i should lol.

I would think that walking your dogs would be exercise, but maybe include some stretching exercises? Years ago, I had a spell of horrible Charlie horses at night, and once I started doing toe touches before bed they went away. Of course, then I stopped the toe touched, too!
