Hi everyone,
so I’ve been diagnosed 13yrs with SPMS, I have a lot of symptoms and mobility problem, but these last 12mths or so I’m getting terrible painful back and neck spasm, I already take Baclofen for the stiffness and spasms I get in other areas, my back and neck are so stiff, I pay a lady to come on a regular basis to do massage on these areas and she 's told me it’s like massaging a board, she told me right from the base of my neck, to the bottom of my back and she can’t release it at all, so I use heat and cold pads, yesterday I decided to increase my Baclofen, so early days yet, does anyone else get it this bad and if so what advice have you been given, if any, oh and I also do back and neck stretches, nothing seems to be touching it.
I found acupuncture greatly eased back pain and worth trying, particularly if you have an MS Therapy centre in range. Also, some time spent with a physio is a good idea, because they can identify what is causing the pain and suggest an exercise programme to help.

Thank you for your reply, I just checked out therapy centres near me, none at all, which is a shame, never thought about acupuncture, I’ll check that out, I’ve already had a neuro physio have a look, she said it’s down to stiffness and spasms and gave me some exercises, which I try and do daily, thanks again.
Hi Jean, over the years I`ve had chronic back pain on and off. It was particularly painful a couple of months ago and I had a great massage. The chap is a therapist who visits the hospice I go to.
He did free the problem, which was low and to the right of my spine base.
Then I recently got a new, shaped wheelchair support back cushion and a seat cushion.
I am pain free after years! Do you sit in one position for a long time?

Hi Poll, Yes that’s why I’m having these massages at home, so hopefully it can be released, however I’m thinking it won’t, seen as though it seems to be down to spasms, the lady comes again tomorrow, so I’ll be interested to see what she has to say, because it’s been a couple of weeks, oh the joys, or not of this condition.
Had Reiki this morning at the hospice, on y arms and hands. I havent really thought it could help, but since the neuro told me my hand weakness isnt down to MS progression (yaayy), my mind could have a different attitude , more positive, to Reiki.

Reiki is lovely, I’ve had that a few times. I spent last night on the sofa, just couldn’t get comfy in bed, my husband didn’t like it, but at least I didn’t keep him awake, I’ll see what my therapist says today about my back and take it from there, I was reading that apprently if you have lesions on your spine it can cause pain, now I don’t know if this is right, you’d know Poll.
Hi Jean well since I had the massages a couple of weeks ago, and got the new back and seat cushions for my wheelchair, I dont have the back pain now. I can get some discomfort…but not pain.
Do you have a pressure care mattress? I have tried several, including air mattresses.
I bought a pressure care mattress myself last year. It`s not bad…It cost £138 from Complete Care shop on line.

Thanks Bouds, these things are always worth a look, my lady comes today to do a massage, so I’ll be interested to see what she has to say. x x
