I was wondering if anybody has difficulties using the Avonex Pen, as in trying to press the button. I started using them November last year but as time as went on they seem to be getting more difficult. I thought it was just myself not wanting to do the injection as i have a fear of needles and blood. But recently my mum has been doing them for me and she has the same problem.

Hi ingrid, strangely enough i also started using the avonex pen in nov last year and i must say sometimes ive also had probs pushing the button, the one thing i found easier was to makesure my thumb was right over the top before pushing the button ive also learnt not push the pen to hard on the leg as that hurts (ouch), have you got the practice pen? my ms nurse gave me one which was usefull. gd luck, ps touch wood ive been relapse free since using avonex. regards Tony.

I havent got a practice pen must ask for one. Its been abit of a nitemare at times last injection i jumped and scratched the leg of myself lol ended up having to go through the whole thing again. But i must say that i have been relapse free myself so really want to stick at it. Phoned ms nurse today waiting on a call back hopefully they can offer some suggestions.
You have to press it pretty hard, but that’s the idea really, accidently firing the mechanism would get stuff all over the place and have this rather frightening needle shooting out before you’re ready!
Have you tried holding the pen with one hand and then pressing the button with the other?
