Hello all,
My first post so bare with me. As the title says i have chosen avone pen. The once a week shot sold it for me. I recieved the paper work to start the meds from ms nurse three weeks ago. Was wondering how long your wait was. The ms nurse is hard to get hold of (1000 patients to 1 ms nures down here), understandable. Should i wait or keep trying to call the nurse?
thanks!
Well I never filled in any paperwork really. I went to hospital to see all the different drug delivery methods explained by my ms nurse. I selected Avonex and then I waited several weeks until Bupa contacted me about my first delivery. Once it was delivered I phoned up my ms nurse and she arranged to come round and watch me deliver the first injection about a week later,to make sure I could manage. After that I’ve been getting regular deliveries, phone calls and texts to tell me when my next batch of meds is being delivered, once a month.
I’m NHS so I assume Bupa is contracted to deliver this to me, no idea how it works if you live somewhere you don’t have a major city/hospital nearby.
I would just carry on as you have been, while the drug can help you stave off a relapse it really doesn’t make you feel any different on a day to day basis so you aren’t missing out on much, apart from the side effects!
It’s the kind of medication that you never know if it’s really working, you just gotta have faith that you’re doing it for a reason.
Patience is a virtue so my mother tells me!
The pen is pretty great by the way, really easy to use and once a week is exactly why i chose it too, as little disruption as possible.
Thanks for the reply. I will try to contact ms nurse to see what he thinks. But they might call, patience is the key i think. Had a play with all the pens and the rebif gameboy. avonex pen was so simple just need a bigger fridge.

If its like copaxone you need a thermometer aswell, unless you are one of the good people who already have one.
Pip
Nah no thermometer needed. Keep the pens in the fridge, take one out an hour before injecting to get closer to body temperature stick it in then throw it away. Just remember to take some ibuprofen or paracetemol for the side effects which will likely hit you in about 3-4 hours. It’s recommended you take it shortly before bed time, in the hopes you may sleep through it.
