Audi

Greetings, fellow happy peeps.
Time has come for a wee rant (again)
It’s time to change my wheels again.
I currently have a Mini Cooper S, 2l Auto.
So I had a look-see at Motability.
I saw an Audi A1 and thought, I like that, and it’s within budget.
But whoa, wait a minute, what’s this I see ?
They are charging extra for the jack and toolkit.
Now, is that legal ? (Any legal beagles out there ?)
Thats like “you can have a steering wheel, but it will cost you £25.00”
Whiff of rat, methinks.
Dont mention that bloody coronation,
Andy.

Standard procedure these days to offer an electric 12V pump and some mousse to seal the tyre. It’s an extra expense for the manufacturer to include wheel, tyre & jack plus extra weight which will affect efficiency. In some models you can order the spare, but some no longer even provide the wheel-well to house it.

Notably, the breakdown co’s now expect callouts to repair / replace a tyre. Today’s snowflakes are not regarded as inclined or capable of replacing a tyre. That said, someone with disabilities may not have the physical capability to replace one.

Back in the day, my Dad wouldn’t let me out in the car without proving I could do certain tasks, including change a wheel. These days it’s part of the driving test to demonstrate opening the bonnet and identifying dipstick, oil cap, radiator or expansion tank cap, brake fluid reservoir and screen-wash though not often asked for.

Thanks.

Spooky, I have a MINI countryman and MUST change damnit. I need a hoist to lift the powered wheelchair and 8 cm more to open the door wider.
Rant away it’s good for your sanity. M

As posted elsewhere, I have an S-max MPV with a low floor but a raised roof, making for a really deep door aperture. Also long, wide-opening doors and a big boot. Ford have just stopped making them but nothing comes close. SUV’s are jacked up, so floor is too high - I’d never get my gammy leg swung up over the sill.
