Antivirals

Hi all

Well after all of this time the dreaded COVID has caught up with me. I work in a primary school and although extremely clinically vulnerable, I was the last staff member to catch it!. I have never felt so ill in my life! I tested positive Friday morning and emailed my ms nurse who called me. Everything snowballed from there. My gp did an urgent referral to Shampton General for antivirals. Early yesterday PCR tests arrived, an NHS practitioner phoned, a duty consultant phoned and Shampton pharmacy called. The antivirals arrived 2 hours later! PCR came back today showing pisitive as expected from the lateral flows. I can’t say they are great to take - nausea and nasty taste in my mouth. Hopefully they kick in soon. The pain in every bone and muscle in my body is unreal.

Has anyone else had antiviral experience? How did it go? I cannot fault how quickly everybody involved acted.

After testing positive on a lateral flow and reporting it on the NHS website, I got a phone call from someone offering me antivirals. I got a choice of two different tablets and an infusion. I was told one of the tablets had a 30% chance of preventing hospitalisation and the other one plus the infusion had a 70% chance. I opted for the infusion as I thought that might work more quickly. I was very lucky in that I never felt particularly bad. Hope yours are kicking in now.

It’s encouraging to read how fast things moved.
Hope you soon feel a little better.

I’s on Tysabri and was told that the anti-viral drug used in the pills was not suitable, so I got the IV infusion instead - it is a different drug and OK.

TBH I was barely even ill with Covid (although testing hilariously positive) but wanted to do everything possible to get the virus out of my system fast and (I hoped) minimise the risks of long Covid.

Apart from staying a bit short of puff for a few weeks, I got over Covid fast and it has left no lasting effects. Getting the anti-virals felt like the right thing to do and I was glad to have them.

I am sorry that you are so poorly and hope that you feel much better soon.
