Ana hep-2 cells positive

Hi Everyone,

I have rrms, diagnosed in 2010. I was sent to the hospital to see a specialist recently regarding a coated tongue, and dry mouth. I had blood test done which come back, that the above blood test was positive. After being told my bloods were positive but okay, the second time I visited the hospital, by another doctor. I have now seen my specialist, she said she wrote to my gp back in April, haven’t they been in contact regarding my positive result, the specialist is also sending me to another hospital to look into my dry mouth etc, and is going to send the blood results to them.I assume she is sending me to be tested for sjogren disease. I ask her what my gp was meant to do with the results, and she said she can’t comment as she doesn’t understand. I don’t know what my gp needs to do, as there is no mention in the letter, what the gp needs to do. Can anyone help with the above positive blood test? As I am so confused? Does this positive test mean I could possibly have another autoimmune disease??? Thanks for any advice or help.

Hi ncm123

Not a doctor, but ana hep-2 positive can be indicative of a number of different autoimmune conditions including sjorgens amongst several others. Referral for different tests, or different specialisms could be required. I have been referred in the past to Rheumatology to rule out conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus.

It is possible to have more than one auto-immune condition depending on what any given immune system attacks. I have 3 auto-immune conditions, sounds dreadful but I’ve had Asthma (controlled) and Eczema (bloody annoying but usually under control) my whole life and now MS has joined in.

Get the additional tests under your belt, ask the doctor you are being sent to what exactly they are looking for/think it might be, and what steps you, the GP and hospital can take to get on top of the issue.

Hi

I was positive for ANA so sent to Rheumatology before firm MS dx. They did another blood test which was negative so then I went on to have MS confirmed.
