Amantadine and sleep.

Hello, everyone.

My current maximum of three hours sleep a night is leaving me lying awake from about two until seven. I know there are things I could do to pass the time but I’d rather be asleep. I’ve been taking Amantadine for ages to help with fatigue. It doesn’t seem to work much. I’ve read posts on other forums by people saying that stopping Amantadine helps them sleep more. Has anyone else any knowledge or experience of this.

It’s a really sunny bright East Sussex today.

Best wishes, Steve.

Hi Steve

Can’t help with any knowledge about amatadine, as I have never taken them, just wanted you to know that I feel for you not sleeping, cos this is something I struggle with also.

Take care, I shall be iñterested in everyone’s replies.

Hi Steve,

Like you I don’t sleep well at the best of times but when I tried Amantadine for fatigue it made my sleep even worse and didn’t help my fatigue at all.

I hope if you stop the Amantadine you can get back into a decent sleep pattern…there’s nothing more frustrating than lying awake while the rest of the family are fast asleep.

Sweet dreams!

Hi Steve,

Like Nina and Pam I don’t sleep well either as you can see from the time of this post.

I really do feel for folks with PPMS who don’t seem to be able to get those elusive 8 hours a night. I really don’t fancy taking sleeping meds as I have had them in the past but they seemed to slow my mind down with a fog. If its any help at all I usually get up when I wake (the tingles and pain are usually on the go) in the wee small hours, have a mug or two of non-caffeine tea and tend to emails, etc that need a response. After an hour or so I go back to bed and try to sleep. It doesn’t always work and this stage of the night finds me sleeping rather lightly. But, at least I know my body is resting.

Maybe worth talking this over with GP, etc.

Regards, Anne

PS Been lovely and sunny up here in the NE of Scotland coast too. Lovely sunset bodes for another nice but cold day today, Sat.

Hi Steve

Why dont you stop the amantadine especially seen as its not helping your fatigue, and maybe you will be able to sleep better, have a word with the dr about stopping it,worth a try.I have trouble sleeping at times, the other night i couldn’t sleep for a minute,so annoying isnt it?

Steve if it is any consolation to you I don’t have any trouble sleeping

All joking aside it is awful not sleeping and if you are not sleeping stop the tablets if you think it is them. Sleep is so important.
