Gosh I hope you guys can help. My mum 73 has lived with ms for 40 yrs now. Never had a fall. Unfortunately due to an acute kidney infection she has been in hospital. They have now dropped her twice. On fall today she has broken her ankle. I am so scared that this is one of those stories where time in hospital just causes problem after problem. How do i best take care of her and help rehabilitate her. She walks with a delta frame. Any advice greatly appreciated.
I’m so sorry to hear this has happened to your mum. It’s a long process when you break the ankle. I fractured my/dislocated my ankle in 2022 and tore off the tendons and ligaments. I had to have an operation and have plates and screws to aid recovery. So I was unable to weight bare on that leg for a month , so I had to hop around with a frame for stability, then moved onto a special shoes over cast before it was removed to the boot. It was 4 months before I could start physio and that’s so important to regal flexibility back into the ankle. It’s a long process and you may need extra equipment in whilst your mum is recovering which an OT can organise but the hospital should do this for you if you’re in the uk.
Hi @junkyardgyp can I ask what the hospital is doing about having dropped your mum and broken her ankle? Have you complained and investigated whether you could sue the hospital for medical negligence? Also what do they say about providing and support care for your Mum and what services will the Health Board/ Trust provide?
That sounds really tough, I’m so sorry you and your mum are going through this. Hospital stays can feel overwhelming, especially when things keep happening one after another.
Right now, making sure she has good rehab support and careful monitoring is really important. Down the line, some people look into additional treatment or recovery options and come across platforms like PlacidWay while exploring
