i got a new pair of boots recently as I find it easier to walk/stand not that I can walk more than 5 meters anyway they really started to hurt one of my heels. I’m lucky my other half is medical (I am too but never studied it) and said I think that’s the start of a pressure sore. It appears that I have a stage 1 pressure sore but I’ve not worn my boots for several days now and still hasn’t improved. I’m really at a loss of what to do as I can’t really walk all the time and blood flow to my feet is very poor as they are always cold.
Withe COVID-19 taking everything over I can’t speak to my GP and of course am thinking of the worse case scenario.
Any thoughts or suggestions welcome. I’m terrified of wearing a pair of shoes now even comfy ones
Firstly as your other half is medical and believes you have a pressure sore you probably have. Sorry. So your first thing is don’t try to wear shoes boots. As this is on your heel? don’t put weight on it. Keep it dry. Call your surgery and ask to be given phone number for district nurse, or ask to be referred to DN depending on their protocol. Take care and stay safe. Ellie
Thanks Elljay. It’s on the back of my heel not the sole side of the foot (where you normally get blisters from a new pair of shoes) so luckily I don’t have to put any weight on it. I’ve not worn shoes for almost a week now but I shall ensure I do as you’ve suggested
Hi, the thought of pressure sores terrifies me. My carers check my skin thoroughly every day and at the slightest sign of any redness…there are in with the Sudocreme! I can sometimes get nicks from my SPC dressing tape too…again good old Sudo helps.
It`ll be Tuesday before you can speak to your GP…you can ask for a telephone appointment.
Get some Sudo on the area and if it isnt better by |Tuesday, make that call yeh?
i think I’ve got some Sudocreme somewhere. Will get my other half to dig it out. It is terrifying the thought of a pressure sore especially at the age of 39! All caused by a bloody pair of boots xx
The district nurses are still visiting me to check primarily for my pressure sores. They recommend Proshield barrier cream which has helped a lot. They’ve been reluctant to give it to me on prescription so I buy my own from Amazon. Catch it early.
I’d echo what Steve has said … Proshield is the best … the district nurses should be able to get it for you … we were able to get it on prescription. Amazon also sounds like a good alternative source … otherwise try Cavillon or Sudocreme. Hope it clears up soon. I may have some spare Proshield if you get into difficulty / can’t get it from another source. Will look for you.
Hi. I have what I was told was a pressure sore on the side of my foot from my shoes pulling in using a ‘foot up’ contraption. The skin was not broken and I was given a barrier spray. However I now have what looks like a scab there. The whole thing has been going on for months, since before Christmas and just doesn’t seem to be going away. Any advice or thoughts would be really useful as I has been trawling the internet this morning before looking on here. Thanks xx
Proshield is the best, if you don’t have, you could try sudocreme or cavillon if you have either of those. Can you ask for an appointment to see a podiatrist ? They are still working during lockdown.
