Worried about symptoms.x.

Hi everyone,
I hope this isn’t out of place here. I’ve been struggling with pain in my legs for over two years now. My GP likes nothing more than to prescribe me with pain killers for this. The pain is through both legs and is a sensation of tightness and shooting pains. Over the last year I’ve been taking turns with s pain in the back of my neck which spreads up my head and then affects my vision, mostly in my left eye and on one occasion my eyes went completely black. I was told I have migraines. A CT scan came back clear. I now have numbness on and off only in my left thigh. It burns, is sensitive and tingles- just from my hip to above my knee on one side. I have had heaviness in my arms at times and have noticed if I walk up any amount of stairs my legs are heavy like I have just done a work out.
Has anyone had anything similar- I keep panicking with each new thing that appears.

Thanks

Hi worriedxx - Sorry to hear you are having a rough time with leg pain. Stairs are difficult for me too as my legs also get ‘heavier’ and harder to move the further I climb. Have you been referred to a neurologist? Initially (I have not long been diagnosed with progressive ms) I was sent for X-rays, then a scan to rule out any skeletal/disc impingement, then I was referred to the neurologist. I have been prescribed gabapentin & amitriptyline for the pain, along with Vit D3 as my levels were low. If you haven’t been seen by a neurologist, start pushing for a referral as the burning/tingling pain is possibly/probably neuropathic and pain killers wont touch it - it will need the likes of gabapentin, amitriptyline or similar, and whilst you are chasing your GP for the correct referral/meds etc. look into meditation/mindfulness as this can help cope with not only the pain, but some of the frustrations along the way.

Hi Theresa, thanks for replying, I feel like I’m going round in circles just now with GP. I have an appointment with the physiotherapist on Tuesday which is supposed to be a neurological examination- I don’t hold out any hope for anything to be done at this. I have actually booked an appointment to go see a neurologist privately as I don’t actually know what else to do, but the soonest I could get is April.
I hope you’re managing ok after diagnosis, I feel like they think I’m pushing for a diasgnosis of something and this is not the case. I just have to get to the bottom of things. I’m currently studying a masters and the effects of everything is starting to take its toll on my ability to study and pay attention.
The gp did mention gabapentin and amitriptyline but this is her solution to most things to mask whatever is going on.

Thanks so much for your advise

Hi. If you could, see a neurologist privately. That will mean you will be seen very quicly. Following that, i think they will put you on their books so to speak.

Hi Mattgye,
I have managed to book an appointment but the earliest I can get is end of April. I suppose it isn’t too long considering what some waiting lists are. It’s an expense I don’t really have at the moment but I feel I have no other choice at this point.

Thanks for replying
