Hi all I have had 2 relapses this year already. Am still going through the second relapse it’s been about 7-8weeks. I get right leg weakness and pain and most days struggle to walk without being in pain. I work 15hrs a week for the NHS. I am 27 and have a 3 year old son. I have been thinking lately that maybe working is getting too much for me. I am constantly tired and have started sleeping 2-3hrs during the day. I just wondered if anyone could advise me of what my options are? Should I give up work? Is there any financial help I could ask for? Any help would be greatly appreciated
An important tip…if you leave work of your own accord, you will be shooting yourself in the foot!
But on the other hand, if you go on long term sick, as many of us here have had to do, your employer will eventually retire you on ill health.
I did this back in 2000 as I was simply unable to work. I had worked for my LA and received enhanced financial package.
There are NHS ex employees here who may be able to advise you.

Anonymous thank you for info. Will defo have a look into those
Boudicca. Thank ls for info. I am 27 and as you know ms is unpredictable. 80% of the time I struggle to maintain going to work due to being in pain. I feel I am pushing myself too much. What were your symptoms before you were signed off for I’ll health? Thanks
I was the same before i had my little girl…i contacted access to work who provided a support worker for me for 16hrs a week. Really helped…maybe you could look into that?
Emma. How do they help you if you don’t mind me asking?
Hi again. My symptoms were falling all the time, due to foot drop. I couldn’t make two steps together before falling. Fatigue was gargantuan! I had a senior post in charge of other staff and used to be able to train new employees, answer the phone, deal with visitors, sell merchandise and keep stock levels up.
All this was easy until my brain fogged and my body failed me.
I was on sick leave for 8 months before I was retired.
I was 47, I’m 63 now and in a wheelie, needing lots of help… otherwise I’m fine!!!

of course i don’t mind,
I was struggling to cope with break and lunch duties and other physical activities. I contacted AtW and they sent someone to come to school to assess my needs. As soon as the man came in he said i would need a proper chair that would support my back etc but the most important part was his recommendation for a support worker for me for 16 hrs a week. Unfortunately the Head didn’t agree and had to get union involved ( after all what is ‘reasonable’ was his little quote when discussing reasonable adjustments!!- he was a complete shit tbh!!)
It really helped me for the short time i had the support… found out i was pregnant about 4 months after support worker started! needless to say i no longer work there!!
Emya thanks for info. The NHS are very difficult to sort things out with. You would think that they would.understand but it’s definitely not the case in my situation. Am glad that you had help from the support worker. Sometimes it’s the little things that count. Hope all is well with you now.
Aww bless you poll you seemed to have been through the mill. What I find so frustrating is that I want to stay working but am not getting the support i need to maintain working. I just feel like I am failing at the moment. I just feel every way I turn I hit a brick wall. I want to enjoy my life maintain working to a degree and enjoy time with my family especially my 3 year old. We shall wait and see…
Hope things work out for you hun.
