Wood flooring or carpet?

I recently stayed with my son who has all wooden flooring & coming back to my carpet feel like my walking in the house is worse here. It feels like my feet drag more on the carpets giving muscle pain & fatigue. Is it my imagination ? I know the obvious drawback to wooden floors would be more pain from falls. What do you guys have?

Morning Redbabe1,
This is exactly what my hubbie and I have been thinking.
We currently have carpets but have wondered if getting wooden floors would be better.
Thanks for asking the question.

Hello, we have wooden floors down stairs bought really for other reasons. I agree that as my MS has got worse the wooden floor causes less falls as when walking there is less grip, if you walk in socks it make life a little easier . I have found wearing shoes with less grip have made walking easier and a little more forgiving when walking in general.

I know my feet are dragging on the carpet & I’ve tried not to but often, my foot/toes don’t lift up properly so end up stumbling as it catches & when wearing socks as my feet are cold it’s worse.

I got rid of carpets years ago and now have vinyl flooring, which is not as sticky and feet tend to slide more. Easier to clean too.
FES can help lift your foot and worth a look.

It’s a dilemma: carpets are more likely to make me trip and fall - no question - but they make it a softer fall when I do! Great choice, isn’t it? :grinning:

Our house came with wooden flooring- the previous owners had fitted Maple strips on top of the wood floor boards. I do know that I have to watch it on the garden lawns especially the front lawn which has a lot of moss and yes my right leg definitely drags if I try walk around it.

Wheels work better on hard flooring.
Feet and sticks have more purchase on carpet.
Which do you rely on most?

Those in wheelchairs don’t (often) have falls.
Hard floors are easier to clean.
Carpet feels warmer underfoot
