I have no trouble wiping my feet on a doormat, but what do you do about a wheelchair?
It’s wet and possibly muddy out, your wheelchair is going to leave dirty marks on the floor, in public buildings I’d have to say I do nothing, but what about visiting friends houses, what do you do?
There are such things as Wheelchair Slippers(!) if you feel you’d like to use them. I’ve seen them on Amazon/Ebay and such. Mind you, I’d imagine someone would have to help fit them on, once you’re inside the door. They’re a bit like elasticated steering wheel covers.
When I visited my daughters new gaff, with stupid cream carpets, I took a runner mat and they laid it down and it moved......ex son in law was none to pleased! Chuff im…as I said, he`s an ex!
I rarely visit people`s homes as they arent that accessible, they visit me or we just phone!
I’ll make the invites! No, it’ll cost in postage, so let’s just leave it as an open invite here. We don’t want those able bodied guys muscling in. They’ll only steal our moves!
Ant, don’t get any carpets fitted… especially not cream ones!
My sister-in-law, (now deceased due to breast cancer) had cream carpets - I hated visiting there - it’s bad enough taking shoes off on entry, but as a smoker I’d have to put them on again to got outside for a fix - off again going back in - just too much hassle - a chair by the door would have been nice.
As I suspected, there appears to be no real answer to the dirty wheels problem, maybe a good wipe down on arrival and some newspaper on the floor is about the best that can be done - fortunately we don’t have that many friends either so it rarely occurs as the wheelchair is not always a necessity - this was a first in 18 months.
I looked (somewhat half-heartedly) on eBay for “Wheelchair slippers” and just saw slippers.
Ha, next Friday the nice carpet men are coming and removing my bungy’s cream carpet. It was here when I moved in and it is very nice but there is a reason why I don’t have anything cream or white! (And I think any gentleman who lives in a bungy for a long time and buys cream carpets should be informed that sometimes they need hoovering or cleaning erm erm.) Anyway, it will be replaced by a nice brown striped carpet. I dog sit sometimes for my son and his big mut comes and he is lovely, but the first thing I do is put down tarpaulins down everywhere there is a carpet. Then once a day, I shake the tarpaulin outside the door and all the fluff and stuff drops off. It doesn’t look very nice but needs-must.
Yep, not like me at all! Not known for being sensible usually ha ha. My clubbing name used to be Duracell, now I’m being sensible!! Happens to us all I suppose at some time.
