I have tried many different diets with MS and I need something more structured than calorie counting, eating wholefoods etc to help me lose weight. Does anyone have any recommendations? I’ve tried:
Juice Plus
Calorie deficit
Slimming world
Intermittent fasting
Cambridge 1:1
Weight Watchers
To name a few!!! But nothing works really/I’ve read too much into it and scared myself out of continuing.
Any advice/recommendations?
Thanks in advance!
Hi @a.laskey90 you and me both. I need to lose a few pounds too..who am I kidding? A few stone is more like it
All I can say is, it’s not easy losing weight. Very easy to gain but, difficult to lose. I think that at the end of the day it is to do with calories. So it has to be about eating less calories than we need.. not too little because otherwise we just overeat a day or two later and undo anything we’ve managed to lose thus far. It’s probably also about doing some kind of exercise that we like too. That’s of course if you are able to still exercise. So, cutting a few hundred calories less out of our diet each day and just a tad more on the rowing machine and this time next week we’ll be half the person we were! No, seriously there’s no easy fix. Less calories than we need and more exercises than we like, is probably what’s needed. We should eat healthily in the main but you can still consume more calories than needed there if you’re not careful. Good luck and wishing you all the best on your journey to a slimmer you.
This isn’t a slimming diet per se so it’s not what you’re asking for, but just for interest it’s my go-to advice for eating well with MS.

The trouble is not all calories are created equal. It might be worth talking to a dietitian and getting an appropriate eating plan.

Quite honestly I’ve read myself to death on what we should do. In my humble opinion there’s enough stuff (didn’t say my usual) going on, eat what you like.
An allegory would be my little nephew with a watch monitoring his heart rate monitor and checking it. WTF you need that for?
Stress is the diet you want minimise. Or the “all about nutrition” bros might be right… filming themselves, isn’t that weird AF?

Best thing I ever did was speak to a registered nutrionist or dietician. You have to find something that works for you.
Okay I only had a couple of stone to lose but I’ve kept that off for two years now in a really healthy and sustainable way.
They will work with you to understand your lifestyle, your likes and dislikes and support you rather than see you as quick money which a lot of those you have said do.
It can be pricey upfront but once those fundamentals are in then it’s dead easy. I found a higher fat diet worked better for me so eat mainly around the mediterranean style diet but I eat things I like and make me feel good. Nothing is off limits

I would recommend keto… there’s so much science behind it. My friend is a nutritional therapist and gave me the heads up. I lost 2 stone. Before you dive into it, read ‘The Ketogenic Kitchen’ by Patricia Daly.

Hi, not a diet as such but I found that cutting sugar out of my diet completely, led to weight loss and feeling slightly better overall - also cut any white carbs and switched to brown pasta, brown rice, sweet potatoes over white potatoes etc.
The sugar thing wasn’t easy at first but find subbing with naturally sweet things (dates, bananas, raisins etc) helps curb some cravings!
wishing you luck whatever option you go for - it’s not easy!

Hi
My neurologist told me to follow a Mediterranean Diet. Apparently it is really good for people with MS.
It is such a mindset change to put the frylite away and get some full fat extra virgin olive oil out with a glass of wine, but i am not gaining weight and i feel that my energy levels are improved.
If you google it, you can get some really good 7 day meal plans to get you started.
