I’ve had RRMS for about 8 years with very few relapses…until recently.
In June, I started to get pain and tingling in one arm. I took a dose of steroids which did not help and gradually over the past few months it has been getting worse and worse.
Now, I can barely use my arm and my hand has no strength and very little sensation. I can’t grip anything, drive, wash my hair, type with both hands etc.
I’m worried thats me on the slippery slope to disability.
Hi there, I have a very similar story. Pretty much relapse free for about the same amount of time. In may I felt a bit of weakness and it just got worse and worse over the summer and I could hardly walk. It was terrifying and I thought maybe I was developing secondary progressive. My ms nurse and doctor were less worried though and said that some attacks just last longer, and that I wasn’t bouncing back as fast as I used to because, ahem, I was getting older. Anyway. It took 5 months but the relapse is now clearing. Probably worth talking to your ms nurse or society, but don’t do what I did and panic, it could be just a really slow burning attack. Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.
Hi That sounds very much like my first main relapse in march. I was only dx in june. I couldn’t drive for three months. Things have been improving since then but very, very slowly. Nearly seven months on and I have recently been able to start writing again…quite useful as i work in a school! Not back to normal but getting there. So don’t give up hope of things improving. I am beginning to think my arm and hand will never fully straighten again…but still have fingers crossed : )
If it helps at all most of my relapses have taken about 9 months to a year to clear up. The worst one lasted 2 years and even the neuro told me that the damage was permanent so we were all pleasantly surprised when out of the blue the damage reversed itself.
Some relapses just do take longer to clear up. Try not to panic,
