Wheeled walking frames...

I took Jackie’s advice and bought an Active Walker rollator, together with a backrest.

I am very pleased with it as is very sturdy and also quite stylish looking. The arms extend quite a way to avoid stooping and the seat height is also adjustable. Browsing books in the library is now so easy as I can sit down anywhere I like. How did I manage before. I live fairly close to the library and I can walk there now with the rollator, in stages with appropriate rests along the way. I am glad of the exercise although my progress is very slow and ponderous.

The only negative aspect is that once I returned home I felt totally wiped out. However, on balance the positives clearly outweighed the negatives.

Alun,

Slow & ponderous & wiped out sounds loads better than housebound & stationary. I love having a seat with me so that I can stop no matter where I am. Enjoy your rollator.

Hi Pat…yes it does. I have a collection of rollators, this one stays in the car, the boot (which is unfortunate because the rest of the car is full of mucky dogs…roll on summer!) it’s easy to pull closed & not too heavy to swing up & in to the car. Good for dog walking as I can pull it closed to get through narrow kiss-gates. I try my best to poke the clumps of mud off the wheels before it escorts my round Sainsburry’s. Being able to hang a shopping basket on it is really helpful & the envy of several trundle bug pushers who I see who either balance their baskets on the seat or have to carry one if they have a three wheeler. X.

Michelle,

I am a Rollator novice and should sport L plates and a warning advising the public to keep their distance. One thing I have learnt is to keep my fingers on the brakes, ready to apply them, should the damn thing run away from me. I can understand fully how you ended up on your knees.

Nevertheless, do not be put off. Think of your next trip as bringing entertainment to the public rather than potential embarrassment to you. You may brighten up their normally dreary day. Try a short trip up and down the street to regain your confidence. Roofers kneepads are this year’s Rollator fashion accessory. I recommend Dayglo orange.

Best wishes
